Hey,

My employer went to a conference in Vegas late last year. Today someone called asking for him. I am not sure quite who it was, but it was in regards to that conference. They want to send him an autographed football signed by this Gino Torretta guy. All I know about him is what I found on his wikipedia entry. Sounds like he was a great college player at UM, but not really given a chance in the NFL.

It will be the only thing really that I have autographed except a John Lynch portrait taken with my emplyer golfing addressed to me from a few years ago during the pro bowl. I am not sure quite what to think about this ball except I'll have a Heisman trophy winner autographed ball. So anyone with some knowledge on this guy would be appreciated.

As I said it looks like he did win the Heisman over Marshall Faulk, but that doesn't neccesarily mean anything with Desmond Howard, Wieneke, Jason White, and even Troy Smith winning it recently. Just cause you win the Heisman like Bush or Leinart don't mean first round and a starting role.

Anyways..

Gino was a great QB for the Canes in 91 & 92. He was the Qb vs FSU for both " wide right I & II". Won the National Championship in 91 and lost in the National Championship game in 92 (year of Florida's devastating Hurricane Andrew) but still won the Heisman (remember the Heisman is given to the best college player, not the best NFL prospect). He was a classy guy despite playing during Dennis Erickson's coaching tenure (aka Thug U era). Benefited from a very good WR core including Lamar Thomas and Horace Copeland. Its like you said: You have a Heisman trophy winner (& national champion) autographed football.

Gino also has been President of the UM Alumni Association, and is a U of Miami Trustee. He is currently working as an investment broker here in South Florida. His family still owns the bar in the San Francisco area that he grew up in. His older brother also played at UM and was a backup QB behind Vinnie Testaverde.

Sounds like he's excelled all over and an outstanding guy. I'll be glad to accept it. thx

As a friend of his, I can say he is a very good guy, husband and father. A role model for all of us.

I hate how people make fun of Hesiman winners!!! Who gives a flying **** about what they do in the future after college? Its a COLLEGE award not a NFL award. Gino was a great college QB, but will always be remebered because of after college. That is truly stupid

Hey the ball came today. It's a miniture reebox football. He signed his name and '92', I believe is the year he won the Heisman.

It looks great and I'll have to find some place safe for it.

anyone jealous
