I know this topic has been beaten to death.....but I don't think that anyone has looked at this angle.

Caddy has been given the rock more and has more rushing yards.....he also has more combined rushing and receiving. He is contributing heavily to a playoff-bound team. Congrats Caddy on likely earning the ROY.

BUT......

IMO, Caddy would have been merely average here, and likely considered a bust. He is a back that needs 20+ carries to succeed. On carries 21+ of a game, Caddy has run 50 times for 351 yards.....a 7 yard average. That is awesome!! I'm not saying as a negative, it's a good trait for a RB.....a RB who you will give the ball to 30 times.

Our featured back, averaged only 14 carries per game this year. Caddy would never have seen the carries which make him as good as he is.

On carries 1-20 of each game this year, Caddy had 218 carries for 746 yards....a 3.4 yard average. This tells me that had Caddy come to Miami and split carries with Ricky....we would have been looking at a 3.4 ypc back.....and calling him a bust.

Ronnie on the other hand has excelled in the role we have put him in. 4.5 yards per carry with limited attempts. I really don't think that we as fans could really have asked for much more (ok, maybe a couple less fumbles....but lets not be too greedy ;) ).

So let Caddy and all the Bucs fans enjoy his success and likely his well earned Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, but know that the Dolphins made the right choice in Ronnie Brown.

I think both teams are happy with their picks. Caddy helped Tampa get to the playoffs and Ronnie helped us move forward toward the playoffs next season.

I agree with that. I'm very happy with Ronnie but I love them both.

Historically, any back that averages over 24 carries a game is likely to have a very short career.

Caddy already missed significant time this season due to overuse, he is not a big durable back, if Gruden continues overusing him he will not last long in this league, write that down and bank on it.

Well said and absolutely true......I said from the beginning that I don't think he will last long in the NFL, seems to always be dinged up.

Hasnt Ronnie missed some playing time also? Cmon players get hurt. A runningback is probaly going to have a major injury at some point in his career whether its college or the pros. Caddy is ready for the playoffs thats pretty much all that matters.

Well, I thought you were exaggerating a bit with 24 carries......but if you take out the six weeks where he played sparingly or not at all....that's how many carries he averaged. Gruden is gonna run that poor guy right into the ground.

Also, to further back up my point......in games where Caddy ran the ball less than 19 tiems (5 games) his longest runs are: 12, 15, 7, 6 and 3. His highest average per carry in any of those games was 2.6

On the flip side.....he had a run of 20 yards or more in 5 out of the eight games where he got the ball at least 19 times.

Just wouldn't have been a fit here IMO

They are both good backs but there is no doubt that Ronnie was the right pick in my mind.

Well as long as Caddy keeps runnin thro people, and Ronnie keeps breakin ankles. It's safe to say that Caddy will not last as long because of his technique.

IMO, it's the exact opposite, Caddy is more likely to break ankles while Ronnie seems to run people over......he's vicious when finishing off runs.

They're both good and both teams got what they needed....I'm very happy we got Ronnie and I think he was the right pick.

Ozzy rules!!

Good Post. You're right about Caddy. He was more of a closer for us this year, than a guy who would blow the game open. I made a post to stir up some s**t a few days ago, but the truth is both teams got what they needed and both should be good for quite some time.

We've already got our QB of the future so you guys will have to play catch up there but all in all these teams are pretty close.
