Give Chop A Grade...

I know it's just the Patriots and their generationally shitty Oline but..... DAMN!!!

Does this list exclude the QB position? Because if not -- any performance/grade list not including Tua Tagovailoa is a fugazi.

That said, it's nice to see Chop continuing the level of play he's been showing for more than a few weeks now.

The Chop Robinson naysayers are discovering in real time why you should never write off a player so quickly.

Oddly, I think I read in another thread that Tua was somehow in the 60's for this game LOL.

It's like I said in that thread...

When the PFF numbers support any given argument I'm making (here, Chop Robinson showing elite traits en route to his superstardom) -- I like to cite them.

When the PFF numbers don't support my arguments or they make someone like Tua look bad -- PFF is worthless and the numbers are irrelevant. :chuckle:

Who cares? We didn’t need to draft an Edge w our 1st round pick unless he was the 2nd coming of Lawrence Taylor
I'm not a fan of drafting for need but we had our best 2 edges coming back from serious injury. It's an expensive position to fill. We have Chop for 5 years if we want him that long.

That said Chop isn't the second coming of LT but he is taking up the opposing OCs' bandwidth to plan for. He has been creating compromises and misfires in opponents' game plan. The numbers have been there as far as pressures but now sacks are showing up. Run defense will come, I hope, but he hasn't been the liability many forecasted (at least not in my eyes worse than the average edge). We could do so much worse with a rookie at a critical position of need. I grade his season B+ with a chance to improve that grade from here out.

You have to be careful w the AVG stuff - there is still a decent contingent of people here who think he was not only mediocre here, but also and currently mediocre now.
And he got $10mil per to be a situational guy who we loved and made a lot of splash plays (a lot meaning, maybe .75 per game). But he wasn't an every or even most down player. This team paid too much for stars to afford that much to part time players.

2024 cap hits - Tua ($9.5M), Tyreek ($18.2M), Waddle ($9M), Ramsey ($8M) and Chubb ($15.8M) = $60.5M

2026 cap hits - Tua ($56.4M), Tyreek ($55.2M), Waddle ($26M), Ramsey ($25M) and Chubb ($29.3M) = $191.9M

Grier went “all in” in 2024. We’re absolutely ****ed by all the new contracts and restructures handed out.

Are you sure we can afford to designate that $27M cap hit in 2026 for Chubb not to play for us?
Yes like it or not that's the core for a few years. Waddle could potentially be moved (and not for a lot of draft comp), doubt the rest unless another team has albatross contracts at positions the Fins need more.
