I've got a real problem with this politically correct bull****. I hate affirmitive action, and that's all this Rooney Rule is.

Let's say the Dolphins targeted Charlie Bailey at Jacksonville and hired him without interviewing anyone else. Would the Fritz Pollard Service criticize the Dolphins for not interviewing a white candidate? Probably not.

Not being a minority by skin color, i can't really understand what its like to be passed up for something based on something as superficial as my skin color. What ever happened to the best man gets the job? I always felt if you were black white, yellow, orange, red, plaid, blue, green, etc i could give a rats arse.. but you better get the job done.

This article is just trying to stir the pot. And like many articles about the fins will probably go national cause theres no possible way we could get any positive press this off season. :yell:

sorry, not registered with that cr@p rag. do not intend to either. i take it the article is ripping the Mueller hire because he was white and, probably because no other candidates were talked too. :shakeno:

didn't the same thing happen last year, (with coach Saban) and at the time we did interview minority canidates. Maybe wanny can just say he hired based upon past interviews.

The policy should not be to give under qualified minorities a "mercy interview" but rather to increase the pool of qualified minorities from which to choose.

The current system puts the cart before the horse, and IMO does nothing but generate unneeded animosity.

I'm one of the first to call out journalists for "stirring the pot." This, however, struck me as responsible reporting. That doesn't validate the Rooney Rule, which I've already dismantled in a previous column.

Yeah, Saban could've just interviewed his wife for the job, then he would've have interviewed a minority, and still hired Mueller. I don't understand how other people try to MAKE you interview/hire someone you don't want. I am sure Art Shell really felt like he had a shot at the head coaching job last year. It was a token interview, and that I think is worse than not interviewing anybody.

this is a job in miami.. As a hispanic man.. I must say white people are the minority down here ;)

anyways, I don't agree with this, If you have your heart set on someone why give token interviews? its not like they have a chance to get hired. You know who you want and your gonna get him. Its not like we interviwed 15 white GMs for this sport.

I don't like the Rooney Rule, and never did. I have yet to see ANY evidence that it's gotten one black man a job in the NFL. Marvin Lewis didn't get the Cincy job because of the Rooney Rule, he got it because he was an outstanding defensive coordinator.

BTW, I happened to agree with Huizenga's assessment of the situation: they didn't interview ANYONE for this; they looked back at their interviews from last year, when they did interview two minority candidates. Somehow, I doubt that these pinheads would be crying if Jerry Reese or Paul Warfield had gotten the job based on their 2004 interview.
