Give Me Gesicki

I love Gesicki....on another note, are there any blocking specialist TE's that we can grab late in the draft?

I'm sure that Miami will try to bring into camp a TE or two that can block after the draft from FA. On the other hand, I would not be upset in Miami took a 2nd TE with good skills tomorrow some time.

Ian Thomas
Chris Herndon
Dalton Schultz
Tyler Conklin
Durham Smythe
Jaylen Samuals

To name a few still there. Interestingly seems according to NFL.com, seesm we got the top TE.

would have preferred Goedert, but Gesicki can't complain about. People talk about his blocking. Let me say this you are not drafting a TE in the 2nd round for his blocking. Remember this, Gase ran a lot of plays for a washed up Julius Thomas that were well designed but didn't result in positive plays Now you have an athletic freak

Top Combine Numbers for TE's from 2006 - 2018 (as far back as nfl.com goes):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Gesicki

40 yard dash: 4.54 (#12 of all TEs 2006-2018)
Bench Press: 22 (tied #9 of all TEs from 2015-2018, doesn't rank on all-time list)
Vert Jump: 42.5 (#4 of all TEs 2006-2018)
Broad Jump: 10'9" (#7 of all TEs 2006-2018)
3 Cone Drill: 6.76 (tied #3 of all TEs 2006-2018)
20 yard shuttle: 4.10 (tied #6 of all TEs 2006-2018)
60 yard shuttle: 11.33 (#4 of all TEs 2006-2018)

With the exception of the Bench Press, he scored in the top 10 in every combine category against all TE's as far back as NFL.com keeps numbers. And even bench press he places top 10 in the last 4 years.

At 6'6" 247lb, Gesicki is an athletic freak.

Absolutely stoked about this pick, finally gives Tannehill the middle of the field threat that he needs. In a way it takes receptions away that Landry would have received, so I think we will be a much more balanced O now. The only question I have is if this guy is rated so highly why did he drop so far?

Actually most good Tight Ends don't get drafted really high (ie 1st round) because teams seek to fill other needs.
Eg, Gronk was drafted in 2nd Round.
- Jordan Reed went in the 3rd Round.
- Travis Kelce went in the 3rd Round.
- Zach Ertz went in the 2nd Round.
- Jimmy Graham went in the 3rd Round.

1st Round Tight Ends are the exceptions, not the norm.

Big, fast, athletic, and great hands!Give me this guy in Round 2. Then go LB or DT (best available) in round 3. I have a feeling this is the next great TE. Watch his film and check out the hands, and him make catches over the middle. Maybe he dosen' t block well, but Im ok with that.
Great call!

In case people are unclear about Mike Gesicki, here is a direct comparison between Gesicki and Jimmy Graham.

Mike Gesicki:
Forty: 4.54
Vertical: 41.5"
Broad Jump: 10'9
Bench Press: 22
Three Cone: 6.76
Twenty Yard Shuttle: 4.1
Sixty Yard Shuttle: 11.33

Jimmy Graham:
Forty: 4.56
Vertical: 38.5"
Broad Jump: 10'0
Bench Press: DNP
Three Cone: 6.9
Twenty Yard Shuttle: DNP
Sixty Yard Shuttle: 11.76

So literally, in every single combine measurable that they both did, Mike Gesicki was just a tad better than Jimmy Graham athletically. The sole question marks were Bench Press and Twenty Yard Shuttle in which Jimmy Graham did not participate. I'm confident that Gesicki would have bench pressed more than Graham, and likely the twenty yard shuttle as well honestly.

So as far as basketball players go ... we have a phenom.

For comparison, when Rob Gronkowski came out (2010 like Jimmy Graham), he was coming off a major back injury, so the only drill he did was the bench press, and he did 23 reps, only 1 rep more than Gesicki.

IMHO, Mike Gesicki has the very real chance to become the best TE in Dolphins history (including Keith Jackson).

Phins Up!
He's a freak and was my favorite TE in the draft. I still can't believe we got him. I honestly believe he Could become the best receiving TE in the NFL.

Great pick by the Phins, I'm not to worried about his blocking, but I am excited about his size, speed and ability to stretch the field up the middle, the Phins haven't had a TE like this in a decade....well done boys.

Absolutely do it.

Immediate impact and complete reversal at our weakest spot.

An offense can grow immensely when such a weakeness becomes such a potential strength. TE's change everything. Ryan Tannehill deserves it.

For a coach like we have ESPECIALLY.

i watched him every weekend at penn state...hes a little lanky and could bulk up a bit but he will be a legit seam threat tight end and red zone weapon. I think he will instantly become a favorite target of tannehills like he did for mcsorely at psu.

Being a psu fan as well, im very happy we landed him and i think he will be a hell of a player for us.

I know hes not very good at blocking but you just cant teach his size/speed mixed with that athletic ability. He also has the work ethic to want to be great and he makes the extra effort to pick up and extra yard or 2.

heres a quote from one of his coaches...

New Penn State offensive coordinator Ricky Rahne saw it firsthand after working directly with Gesicki as tight ends coach in those past two successful seasons.

“I could not be happier to watch Mike enter the next stage of his life,” Rahne said in a school release. “While his almost unparalleled athleticism has been well-documented, I was always more impressed with his work ethic and desire to prepare. These two characteristics allowed his natural ability to shine, and they will continue to make him a weapon at the next level.”

Irish, Gronk was taken in the second round. The only 1st round TE taken was Hurst so I wouldn't worry about that.
