Godchaux "resigned" that NFL future likely isn't with Miami

Should we resign Godchaux

I agree, but it seems some agents actually tell the guy he's WORTH $130mm/yr. With some frequency we see an angry player claiming to be 'disrespected' because they had to take less. As long as DG understands $9mm is ideal but not expected, I have no problem. I'm like the others . . . I'd like him back, but not at $9mm
Are you suggesting some agents (lawyers) might be less than honorable?

Hard to believe..........

Flo is a defensive specialist. I trust his decision whatever it is on the defensive side of the ball.

Let's say they tie the truth down with a bunge cord . . . . a VERY loose bunge cord. Agents, after all, are in the sales business. That said, DG may get $10mm, but I doubt it

I think with the emergence of Raekwon Davis it spells the end for Godchaux.

I also think we might pick up a DT in the later rounds of the draft so I’d say thanks for your time with us but time to move on.

I don't think that is accurate, given the myriad of roles to which he has been exposed.

While a majority of his coaching experience has been on that side, he also served in offensive assistant positions, but perhaps more importantly, he has also been a scout and evaluator.

I would do a 1yr $5M prove it deal after the injury and a bad market. Hopefully he'll come back and take it.

yes but this is not like every year. The fact is the cap not only didn't go up but rather it went down.
It will change the overall amount of money available but won't change that there are teams out there with weaknesses that are going to need to bring in some predictable nfl talent.

The Dolphins have spent good money on Albert Wilson and Brandon Gibson when we were weak at WR. We've spent good money on Danell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler when we were weak at LB. Money spent on second tier fas happens.

A guy like Godchaux will get a two or three year deal to gamble on his talent. Whether he sees the last year depends on circumstances.

I remember Olivier Vernon getting a huge contract from the Giants! I think he was pretty good with them the first year, but was he really worth all of that money?
I still can't believe he got a contract similar to what we have Suh.

I had to look this up because I remember Vernon as being a guy people complained didn't get sacks...was a run stuff DE. Vernon was solid when he was here. The sacks are the column that begins with 3.5 in his rookie season.

Right on. So same as what I said but over the course of 4 years not 5 - ha has a big drop in year 3 but Miami wanted to resign him to a nice extension anyway... but he wanted, before his 4th season, a contract that paid him upper echelon money. When he had that insane 4th season where he led the NFL in hurries/hits combined, he parlayed it into the mega contract. Happy it wasn’t from us, but he was a good player while here.

It wasn’t so similar... Suh got more money and more guaranteed. And to OV defense, although I didn’t think he was worth the contract he got either, he led the NFL in hits/hurries and was an ascending 26yr old player the year he got it. There have been many worse contacts - our very own Mike Wallace is a great one.

I voted no... and I don't think his return is likely either... a part time DT isn't worth a whole lot.

Clearly... Wilkins and Davis are much better, so what we need is cheap depth and Godchaux is likely going to get a middle value type of contract... He can start for bad teams.

The only decent pick Grier made in 2017.

Charles Harris
Raekwon McMillan
Cordrea Tankersley
Isaac Asiata
Davon Godchaux
Vincent Taylor
Isaiah Ford

what a joke of a draft
I remember I panned that draft in a YouTube comment, ranting that Miami didn't make one attempt at a player who had any chance to be great. It was underneath a video reviewing the Dolphins draft. Almost immediately I was attacked by other Dolphin fans, insisting it was one terrific pick after another.

That was the easiest recent draft to condemn immediately, due to the name on top. The only other time I felt that was was the Billy Milner draft

Godchaux can be a decent rotational 4-3 tackle somewhere else but he doesn't fit what Miami is trying to do right now
