Dolphins | Culpepper could return this season

Mon, 6 Nov 2006 16:49:01 -0800
Miami Dolphins head coach Nick Saban still believes QB Daunte Culpepper (knee) can make a return this season. Culpepper continues to be evaluated on a week-to-week basis and will only be placed on Injured Reserve as a last resort, according to Saban.

I hope he does return if the season is truly lost because if the season is truly lost (playin every Sunday like we did yesterday I can't believe so) I would like to see what, if anything, we have in Daunte before the offseason. See if those random Brady Quinn posts merit consideration.

Daunte is our best quarterback and when healthy should be on the field reguardless of weather or not we are in it. I know you aren't a Daunte fan, but he is our guy and when healthy, is a special player.

he WAS a special player. so far he's making millions, we gave up a 2 for him, and he's done nothing other than get sacked a lot. at best he's a work in progress.

I think Daunte would LOVE to make it back by the Vikings home game. Maybe he'll have his agility and speed in the pocket by then. Daunte is a competitor and he's probably dying to get out there. This is really Daunte's first serious injury in his playing career at any level. I'm sure he's trying his best to get back to the Daunte of 2004. He was unbelievable back then.

Agreed Daunte has that "SPECIAL" factor that people look for. That "IT" that people were debating if Ronnie had. He's our best QB when healty and for people to think we are ok with Joey is scary. Why would we want the guy who has never lived up to expectations on the field when we have a guy who has been one of the best QBs in recent history. A physical freak who has the ability to take over a game with his talent. Think about it like this: 4th quarter, we're down 5 points and we have to drive 99 yards for the score to win. Who do you want back there at QB for us? A healthy Culpepper or Harrington?

Culpepper is physically gifted, but he has missed most of the past two seasons. So, even if he does come back this year, how good do you guys expect him play? He was already struggling. He will still not be at 100% and he will still have to play the rust off of him. I'm not sold on Culpepper, and I certainly would be surprised to him play at a high level (or even a mediocre one) this season.

why is it that the steelers fans want bens head. after a couple of bad games. he lead them to a super bowl victory and there not ready to hand him anything, they want him to be great or get out.they are ranked as some of the best fans in the league
but you seem to show such a loyalty to a player that hasnt done anything great since 04 and that was with a different team.
why do you at every chance talk up DC when nobody knows what he will be.this is a what have you done lately league and if you keep hoping and planning that a player will turn out to be as good as he was 2 years ago then you will keep losing.

He needs to comeback to get chemistry with his teammates and as a spring board into the offseason. The dolphins need to be comfortable that he can do the job before the offseason.

You seem to contradict yourself. OF COURSE we dont know what DC will be because no one can predict the future. What we do know is that he has the ability to be a probowl calibur QB which he HAS proven multiple times in the past. We also know that JH hasnt been playing like a reliable #1 QB in his first several starts. So you tell me why we shouldnt stick with DC, why not confide in DC? You'll be proven wrong next year

I really think we need to upgrade QB, I just dont see Daunte as having "IT" anymore. And its not just the knee, its everything. His athletic ability might eventually recover 100%, might not, but I really dont know if hes got the mentality to be our future. I mean he hasnt showed ANYTHING in the last 2 years of him playing to merit any kind of respect. He has been absolutely awful. Who knows the reason, be it hes just not smart enough, not quick enough on reads, or just breaking down as most running QBs do around his age, but I really dont see him leading us to a superbowl in 3-4 years, which is realistically when we will be taking our best shots.
IF somone like Brady Quinn is available, HOW can we pass up a franchise QB like that?? Just imagine us with Tom Brady or Peyton Manning at our helm! Or Dan the Man back in his prime! I just dont see Daunte becoming that player he was 3-4 years ago. If Quinn is there, we need to take him.

Can the Dolphins afford to put Culpepper in to see if he is healthy enough?Maybe find out if he can avoid being sacked a half dozen times? Whew, tough questions and before I seen him get laid on his back multiple times I might agree. But at this point I say keep with our winning recipe, keep in Joey and run Ronnie until his shoe prints are on our opponents jerseys. Could this work with Daunte? Sure it could but if we can get a streak going don't count on it.
But for the record I prefer Daunte but I wouldn't want to gamble some wins on his health or if he can stay mobile enough to avoid being sacked. We need a QB that can move with such an inconsistent Oline thus this far.

Culpepper ain't coming back anytime soon thats for sure however I would like to see him later in the season to see what he brings to the table given more time to rehab. I think it would take a miracle for him to make a turnaround at this point but if he does that would be just great!
