"Guys get fined for everything," Taylor told the Palm Beach Post last week. "You sneeze on the quarterback, you darn near get fined. It's ridiculous. They're ruining the game by protecting the quarterbacks the way they are."

I apologize if this has already been posted, but I just saw it for the first time and I completly agree with him. It is stupid, quarterbacks are football players too and they knew football was a contact sport when they signed up for it in grade school!

He's right. The NFL needs to realize the QB positions are manned by Professionals who are men.

Either that or put red jerseys on them.

I agree. It's ridiculous how the QBs are protected. They treat them like a bunch of *******. Honestly, I liked to get hit when I played. I mean, getting blind-sided was no fun, but getting hit gets your adrenaline pumping. The only thing I agree with as far as QB protection is coming in too low. Because given the position the QBs are in (standing, legs exposed) they are susceptible to knee/leg injuries. Other than that they shouldn't be more protected than any other player. Late hits should be guaged the same, helmet to helmet should be guaged the same and they should be able to get hit just as hard as the next guy.

That is ********!! That was hardly a pull on kitna's facemask. I hope taylor ripes Tom Brady's head off and I don't care what the penalty is. I HATE THE PATRIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JT's right...it's gotten really sad. The hit by Mo Lewis that knocked Bledsoe out in 2001 is now considered unnecessary roughness, especially if Vick, Brady or Manning is the recipient.

Thing is, when you think about it, the rules protecting QBs are pretty much necessary. Only about half of the NFL's starting QBs are any good, and it's in the league's interest to avoid seeing that number drop through injury.

Yep, QBs are generally the biggest investment a team has, and the most iconic player for a fan base. Its in the leagues and owners best interests to protect them.

It can get out of hand though. However, I think right now the problem isnt so much that QBs are protected, but that the defining rules that do it are kind of ambiguous. Confliction and judgement calls are what should be eliminated, not QB protection.

The need to streamline and further clarify the rules are needed badly. Its become almost like holding where it can happen on almost every play (in this case involving some sort of contact between defender and QB) but it is up to the eyes of the beholder if it goes too far. There are some plays where hands come close to the helmet and a QB gets a push to the ground and there is no call. And then the Mon night game before last when Hasselback was grazed if at all by the fingers of a GB defender and most probably only got touched on the back of his jersey where his name is printed and a roughing the pass is called.
