Good read for those who want Ted Ginn with 1st pick

Ted Ginn is NOT a #1 WR. He is too small and will not match up well with #1 corners. He is obviously extremely athletic and agile. He will be a good slot reciever and return specialist. Is he worth drafting with the 1st pick? NO. I understand the Fins need to stretch the field on offense and need SPEED. The Fins would have the ability to get a guy very similar in size and speed to Ginn who has flown under the radar bc he plays for a smaller school.
Johnnie Lee Higgins is 6'0 180 (same size as Ginn) and runs a 4.27/40 (Ginn runs a 4.30/40 I believe). He was named to the 1st team All- American Team along with Calvin Johnson. He returned kicks and was Jordan Palmer's go to guy. Ginn is getting more praise bc he played for Ohio State with a Heisman QB while Higgins played for UTEP with a mistake-prone QB. This guy can stretch the field and really add crazy speed on the offensive side of the ball and special teams.
A scout watching the Senior Bowl practices had this to say about Higgins, "Johnnie Lee Higgins of U.T.E.P. can really fly and he reminds me of Sinorice Moss from last year because he just seems to be playing at a different speed than most everyone else."

Final Stats-
Ginn- 59 catches for 781 yards, 13.2 YPC, 9 TDs
Higgins- 82 catches for 1319 yards, 16.1 YPC, 13 TDs

Johnnie was a beast here in ELP. He did it all. Wide left, wide right, slot, punt returns, the kid can play. Good to hear.

not quite sure how the argument for Higgens is simultaneously an argument against Ginn Jr.

I'am all about ginn as our #9 but if this kid can play then lets see what he's got at the combine, fair enough

interesting....but im still a ted ginn jr fan and i want him with our first pick, too small? 6'1 aint that small and if u want to ask anyone if being too small matters ask steve smith whose the most explosive wr in the game and is only 5'9 and weighs 185 lbs

Its not necesserily an argument against Ginn but more, an argument to those in favor of getting Ginn with the 9th pick. That would be a bad choice IMO bc there are other Ginn's later in the draft. With the 1st pick, a team needs to choose a STANDOUT guy. The only WR that is a standout in this years draft is obviously Calvin Johnson, after him the talent declines to a second tier of guys like Dwayne Bowe, Sidney Rice, and Dwayne Jarrett and hopefully the Fins dont take any of these with our 1st pick. However, if one of these guys are there in the 2nd round than I think the Fins should take one of them, most likely Bowe or Rice. But more likely, in the 3rd round, Higgins should be there for the taking.

Great topic. Higgins sounds like a player. However, you have to take into fact the defenses he was playing against vs. Ginn, jr. Ginn was playing against some of the best defenses in the nation while Higgins was lighting it up against the nations bottom feeders on D. I would definately like to see him at the combine as someone else had said.

ahhh yes-the trash one player to hype another routine

When I say small, I mean Ginn is on the frail side. There arent too many top nfl WRs who are 6'0, 180. Yes, Steve Smith is 5'9 but the guy is thick and can take a hit. I personally feel that Ginn wouldnt take a hit like an Anquin Boldin or an Andre Johnson. Those are real #1 WRs and #1 picks. Ginn doesnt fit top 10 talent.

Nope, not bashing Ginn. Hes awesome. If the Fins had the 16 pick as they did last year, then Ginn would be a great pick for the mid-1st round but this year, the Fins have a TOP 10 pick. The point of the article I wrote was to inform people that there are guys very similar to Ginn who can be taken in later rounds.
