Just before he takes the field for the first time in a Miami Dolphins uniform sometime this season, Kyle Eckel will pause and grab one of those mangy, faded Navy T-shirts he has collected the past four years. The former Naval Academy star fullback will put it on under his football pads and think of his buddies serving their country halfway around the world.

I really think he may end up one of my favorite Saban pickups before all is said and done. This is not just a guy who will help us on the field (I think he'll be a good fullback) but perhaps more importantly will be a character guy whose greatest contributions may be in the lockerroom. These are the types of players that I hope makeup the backbone of our future team

It's interesting they think he'll end up suiting up for a game this year. I wonder if he will.

I would be amazed but I guess he has to unless he gets on IR with a hamstring or something

If he's put on the active roster, who will he replace? I can see him taking Minor's spot on the roster for next year for sure.

Looks like he can practice with the team without being part of the roster.

They can put him on the commisioners exemption list or something to that nature. They get a roster exemption for him.

He can stay on the commish's exempt list the whole season I think. We don't have to activate him.

that's good I thought it was like the PUP where we have to make a decision in two weeks

he was ranked like the third best fullback wen he came out but he wasnt drafted because he was in the navy and had to finish his years
