THIS is the week to put in Sage.
Why?
1) Saban emphasizes process over results. Sure we beat the Saints, but we continued to have too much inaccuracy from the QB position. Changing QBs now underscores the cornerstone of Saban's coaching philosophy.
2) We demonstrated that we can win on offense by running the ball. That takes the pressure off the QB. If Sage is inserted now, he won't have nearly the pressure on him to carry the offense.
3) We'll be playing at home against a good team that's favored to beat us. Teams typically get very motivated to play when they're underdogs at home. Sage would reap the benefits of having a very motivated team around him. And if we have a new QB starting the game, the rest of the team would probably play even harder to compensate for his newness. This is probably what happened in Philly with Feeley when McNabb went down.
4) Starting Sage now would be the opposite of a "panic" (read: DW) response by Saban. Starting him against the Saints would've sent a message of panic to the team and put a ton of pressure on Sage to salvage the season. Starting him after a win on the road does none of that.
I think we can still beat the Falcons with Gus starting, but if we're going to start Sage at some point this season, this is the week to do it.
