PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Roger Goodell is getting impatient with the stalemate between the NFL and Matt Walsh, the former New England Patriots employee who implies he has tapes he made of opposing teams that the league has yet to see.
"If it's just taping team's signals, we know about that," the NFL commissioner said Wednesday as he wrapped up the league meetings. "At some point I will run out of patience."
Lawyers for the league and the Patriots have been negotiating with Walsh's attorney to get him to tell them what he knows. Walsh, now a golf pro in Hawaii, is seeking protection from any action the league or the Patriots might take once he reveals his information about the team's taping of opponents.
Walsh's name first surfaced two days before the Patriots lost to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl. He suggested he had information beyond the tapes confiscated from a New England employee during the opening game of the season against the New York Jets. New England coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000 by Goodell, the team was fined $250,000, and the Patriots forfeited their first-round choice in this month's draft after the tapes of the Jets' defensive signals were determined to be against NFL rules.
The league subsequently destroyed the tapes.
It wasn't until after the Super Bowl, when Goodell met with Sen. Arlen Specter, R.-Pa., to discuss the matter, that the league acknowledged the tapes went back to 2000, when Walsh still worked for the Patriots. League officials acknowledged they erred in not disclosing that Belichick admitted taping opponents since he became New England's coach in 2000.
The main question is whether there are tapes of the St. Louis Rams' final walkthrough practice before the 2002 Super Bowl, as has been suggested in published reports. The Patriots, underdogs by two touchdowns, beat the Rams 20-17 in that game.
Jeff Pash, the NFL's chief lawyer, said after Goodell's statement that the league is continuing to negotiate with Michael Levy, Walsh's lawyer.
"We're having a good dialogue," Pash said. "We're making progress. [Walsh] feels he's in uncharted waters and wants to feel comfortable when he comes forward."

Why would Walsh want to give Goddell material for him to burn and call Walsh a liar? Goddell is involved in this too. Remember Walsh said it would not only effect NE but the NFL it's self. He needs to give that evidence to the FBI IMO. Screw teh commissioners Goddell and Tagliabue. I know what they did. Maybe it is past of a sting operation and the FBI is wanting to know how far Goddell will take it.

Give them too Sen. Arlen Specter, R.-Pa., and have the teams he taped be there as well for the viewing and let those teams decide if there was cheating the other teams would surely know.

You do realize if he does not have this tape which he never said he had .only arlen spector and boston hearld said so .Patriots are already getting ready to sue the boston hearld. If he has no tape he is going to be slamed with a defamation case for millions.

what does FBI do such a tape.was any laws broken ? if he has audio tapes i am sure he will never goto the FBI as its a federal offence to tape people without their consent and he will find himself in the jail as soon as he mentions he broke a actual law.

He will never talk as anyway he looks at it he is in trouble .Even if the congress gives in it will want him to not lie.He is demanding that even if tells a lie he should not be sued. i do not think no one is going to accept the demand to let some lie and not face consequences.

In 7 months if he cannot release a part of it to youtube or espn reports camped out in hawaii i do not think he has something new. Say he takes part of it and sends to some reporter from a mailbox with return address to idenfity him do you think we would have seen something .we have not see a piece of video any where. He has not even said a word on this which even more funnier yet i see a quiet few walsh said threads.

what exactly could goddell to do walsh? he doesnt even work for the nfl anymore

Oh yeah, because Arlen Specter is quite the impartial party here.

Give me a break. What you guys think Goodell and company are doing for the Pats, Pats fans think Specter is doing it against them.

If Walsh is gauranteed immunity from any law suits or prosecution if he comes forward, Goodell will have the information whatever it is, BS or fact in pretty short order.

If Kraft and the Pats are so confident, why don't they call off whatever dogs Walsh is afraid of if he comes forward. He's just a little nobody who claims to have something that may damage this huge goliath of an organization.

What are they afraid of that they have to have this sword hanging over the guys head if he talks. Especially if there is nothing to what he claims?

Should be easy enough for a sharp outfit like the Patriots to discredit it..... if it is BS.

They are not audio tapes, I've already pointed that out to you.

Actually ,Walsh tells the truth he is gauranteed immunity .He wants immuntiy if he is not telling the truth .Does not make you one bit curious as why someone wants immunity to not tell the truth?

I doubt he wants immunity to lie, which is what not telling the truth is.

He would want immunity if what he alleges is contested and it is determined that there is not enough evidence to support his recollection of events.

The tables could turn quickly for the worse for poor li'l old Walsh if an opening presented itself that allowed Kraft to sic his Boston Legals on him.

Goddell just wants to sweep this all under the rug. This is why he destroyed all the evidence. I hope Walsh has some really incriminating evidence which forces the Commish to penalize the Pats even more. These cheaters haven't been punished enough.
