After reading about Roger Goodell's new discipline policy I am a little worried for Porter and our Dolphins...

1. He will apparently suspend players before the legal system has run its course.
2. He talks about taking away draft picks from teams with players that thwart the law.
3. He plans on announcing some penalties before the draft.

I'll have to go online for the link, but its in today's Philly Inquirer.

If I was the Dolphins, I'd be furious with Porter for exposing them to this uncertainty.

He also stated his new plan will deal mostly with repeat offenders.

which is a category that Porter falls into...

:dolphins:

I have a huge problem with Goodell's get tough policy...it will probably require years to come up with fair guidelines for a policy...which means that several teams will get screwed while he tries to work the kinks out...

but we never ever get screwed by the NFL do we?

Also, I was just wondering how you draw the line when it comes to a serious offense...Does Ray Lewis mean that the Ravens should surrender a 1st round pick? Does PACMAN Jones mean that the Titans should forfeit their entire draft.

Oh yeah, like THAT will ever work out. I see the Owners and Players associations taking the NFL to court the second he tries to suspend a player before legally proven guilty.

That's not even legal. That's downright unamerican to deem someone guilty before proven.

If thats what it takes to get players to stop acting like thugs and start acting like real men, im all for it

The NFLPA and NFL is agreeing and backing Goddell 100% on this entire issue

That's fine...

but there is no guarantee that Goodell's policy will work...Do you think Pacman Jones is really going to clean up his act. Some of these transgressions are habitual in nature...actually most might be...

This is just a propose policy and is not yet implemented. The policy has a lot of legal issues to overcome before it is even put to a vote by the owners and players.

Since when haven't real men gone out and duked it out. Whether it's in the parking lot or behind the stables.

This kind of thing is as old as dirt and as American as apple pie.

Hasn't anyone ever watched a John Wayne movie.

The Porter thing didn't involve drugs or weapons or woman beating or anything like that.

If Porter or the Dolphins get punished for the fight night at the casino thing it will be a huge injustice and nothing but politically correct bullsh**.

I don't see how the NFL is going to make these new policies retroactive against past discretions...if so, how far back would they go? Most likely, these new guidelines would be applied to issues that arise moving forward.

If Porter does get suspended, I believe that his punishment would fit under the guidelines that were in place before the 2007 Owner's meeting.

Innocent until proven guilty, first and foremost. Can't suspend a player UNTIL the court process is completed.

Who does this guy think he is? Take away draft picks?

Can't punish a team for an individual player's actions. Obsurd!

First of all, I was under the impression that the plan hadn't been totally ratified and solidified yet. I don't think the owners are going to let Goodell take draft picks without a fight. I could be wrong, it could be set in stone but I don't think that aspect of the plan is yet.

Also, they're not going to put teams in a situation where a pre-existing incident is cause for penalty. That would never fly. So Porter is safe for now, if he screws up again now that there's going to be a policy in place then it's a liability. But he's fine for now.
