Goosies Galore Terron Armstead to set up Tua/Brees meeting before camp...

I mean, he sits in a room with Marino on many days. It's cool but he's already able to pick the brain of the best QB ever. Don't know how much he improves simply because he spent a day with Brees.
I would agree that any benefit is intangible, if at all. More of an interesting story line than anything else.

To take the "devils advocate" position, Dan was never known as a "cerebral" QB. I'm not sure Tua can pull off the "pick a guy and let it fly" approach that made Dan who he was. I doubt Brees is going to do anything considered "instructional", but maybe more of an attitude/approach type of thing.

This^. Marino is simply the most talented player to ever play. Being able to pick say a Manning or Brady/Brees brain would be more beneficial. Probably not going to talk X’s and O’s With Brees but cool story.

That's pretty much the case. Danny was blessed with something I haven't seen another QB display. Not even Mahomes has that arm. NO ONE.

That doesn't really translate to helping Tua though.

People need to remember the team that drafted Drew Brees committed the No.4 overall pick to replacing him 3 years into his career. For all the flack we think Tua gets, the Chargers flat out said your getting replaced, find a new job and good luck with the shoulder injury. He didn't have an legion of fans to support him the way TT does.

Drew wasn't always a HOF QB. That, more than anything, is where Tua can find inspiration.

This also shows how the right coach and the right offense (that fits the QB) can take a QB from OK to amazing. If Brees stayed in SD, he probably wouldn't be headed for the HOF.

He really came on in year 4? 5?

Brees is actually fairly dumb coming from my raving Saints buddy. He as an announcer was unwatchable. But, I think Tua will be better for whatever the older right-handed analog of him can impart.

The skill set of Tua is much more like Brees than it is Marino’s. Obviously being able to interact with Marino is a huge benefit. Yet spending time with Brees certainly can’t do anything but help Tua gain even more knowledge as an NFL QB.

Brees graduated from Purdue with a 3.4 gpa and was an Academic All American in college. So I imagine your buddy doesn’t have a clue when it comes to intelligence.

Some former players just aren’t good as announcers but that doesn’t mean they are dumb. Terry Bradshaw is dumb as a rock but he has made millions over the years on TV because people love to laugh at his dumb comments.

I wouldn't expect Marino to be particularly good at coaching a young QB. Marino was very instinctual, but not really a student of the game. In my experience many great instinctual players aren't as good as lesser players who had to rely on studying the game when it comes to teaching others. I would never claim that Chad Pennington was a better QB than Marino, but I suspect that Pennington may be a superior teacher. Marino's experience is obviously valuable, but I doubt that Marino would be the best ever teacher for Tua.

As for Brees, I don't know whether he'd be a good teacher or not, but I do see Brees as the closest near contemporary analog for Tua's game (IMO Montana is the closest analog). For example, I expect that Brees being a shorter QB is able to offer more insight and experience on seeing passing lanes. I would also guess that the reads and throws Brees made are closer to what Tua will be expected to make.

Agree on both Brees & Bradshaw.

Case in point, Collinsworth is well educated but an awful announcer IMO. Further, Alex Smith is real sharp & did okay as an analyst for bspn last yr.

It will be interesting to see how Fitzpatrick does on Amazon this yr. Both he and Smith crushed the Wonderlic.
