I know I shouldn't be amazed but reading some of these posts is unbelievable. Look NONE of us has no idea what the board was for the Fins OR the other teams so it's IMPOSSIBLE to predict whether this person would have been there or not. Look we NEEDED a RT we drafted a true RT that started over 40 games in the SEC. It may have been a reach but that's who Hickey wanted why wait & we have no idea what the offers were. The Pats drafted a need coming off a torn ACL that was rated in the 60's by Mayock & you hear no criticism.

All of the ESPN guys agreed with the pick & I'll take Grudens opinion way more than the experts on here for goodness sakes most mocks had us reaching for a RT as well whether it was Moses, James, & Cyrus. I don't claim to be an expert but ill trust Gruden & a guy like Hickey who has many yrs of experience scouting & did pretty well in TB. I'm looking forward to the next 2 rounds & we'll see what happens!

James is a good player and he'll start day 1 but it was a tremendous reach in an event that's all about value. Could have traded back and got the same player along with more picks. That's how you get ahead. That's how the New England Patriots have won Super Bowls and dominated the draft. They understand value and the Dolphins don't. And that's why year after year we're spinning our tires in the mud.

Even if 18 OL were taken before Miami, the Dolphins still needed to take the best OL available. Of course, I'm kidding about taking the 19th best OL in the first round, but if ever a team needed to upgrade at a position, it was Miami. Once again, he has started a lot of games at the position we need him in the best college conference. I like it.

Keep drafting needs every year and you'll keep having need to fill every year.

It's unrealistic to think you'll ever have a complete team. That's why they need to be drafting playmakers. The dolphins have been drafting to fill holes on the roster for over a decade and its gotten us nowhere.

Wasted value in an event where value is key. Picks like James are what is going to keep the carousel of fail spinning. Philbin will be gone after this season but Ross is a moron and will want to keep hickey. The new coach will want his own QB And tannehill will be gone. Well be exactly back where we were like last time and the time before that and the time before that...

Same ol' Dolphins draft story. At this time next year we will be drafting another OL with the first pic. :(

I agree with most of what you said we definitely could have traded back, but using the Patriots is not the best example. Yes they have had a history of picking up many picks but how many of those picks have really become that great? Vince Wilfork?.. No receivers and always a mediocre defense at best. Take Tom Brady out of New England and the AFC East the past 10 years would be a lot different.

the reactions to the draft on Finheaven always make me laugh. It doesn't matter who is picked, there are always a bunch of guys you never heard of with 100 total posts that hate it.

Exactly! You gotta draft for BPA over need. Dennard or Nix were the two best players available at #19 and would have been way better value than James.

anyone notice that almost every pick from almost every team was for "need".

Wrong, need matched up with value. In other words there happened to be a player available worth their pick that happened to match up with a need. That's a big difference to Miami that reaches for a need. That's why a trade back was important. James is a much better pick at 27 but not so much at 19.

Winning the draft is more important than winning football games too right? We got a good RT who will start right away and we have needed a RT for a long time. Was he BPA on most of our well informed boards? No. Was he on all the wonderful draft gurus? No...though some had us taking him in mocks already. Point being media hacks lead fans to believe they know the value of every guy and what round he should be taken in, truth it's all speculation for ratings. Who knows how teams had James rated? We never will, but it's like politics or anything else, the media shapes the story. Can an argument for Value pick be made? Sure. Do I care that much? No. A good RT will help us play better on offense and hopefully win games. Could we have taken a flashier, higher rated player and it paid off too? Sure. There's more than one way to skin a cat. LEt's see id Ryan doesn't get sacked near as much this year and how that effects our win loss record before we jump off a bridge for not winning the draft ratings war.

yeah that's pretty much the extent of it...we can argue about his value although top 20 for my money was too rich but we walked away from an easy add pick 91 to the cupboard opportunity in the process...

just not a good day for us...take the player out of it the handling of the board was just poor...

So, basically y'all are complaining about 8 spots?

no i'm complaining about losing out on adding another high pick piece...i just don't think they handled the board right unless they felt zona at 20 would take james...chance i would have taken
