Grade the signings of Albert, Mitchell, and Starks as a whole.

My grade: B.

Don't forget re-signing Grimes. I would give them an A so far. I like every contract except for the Albert contract. They over paid a bit for Albert, but they had to get a left tackle, but every other contract was a bargain in my opinion. Re-signing Starks at the price they got him for was a steal.

Incomplete. FA just started..

At this point now in FA...just those three guys. Disregard who we will sign later- if we do sign more players as I am sure we will.

Just in the signings of Albert, Mitchell, and Starks as a whole. Grimes is an A++ signing!

Incomplete.

I can't wait for the next "grade the FA period" thread!

This doesn't make sense. So far you can give em a certain grade but depending on what happens later could affect the grade. If we lose out on people later, then I'd give em an F, if we fill other spots with quality players on decent contracts, then they have the potential to get to an A.

Brent Grimes - pro bowler, our best player last year...brought back on a team friendly deal that gives us the option to cut ties if his play deteriorates the last two year. A
Louis Delmas - 2x pro bowl alternate...brought in on a one-year show me deal. injury concerns, if he is healthy he is an upgrade over Clemons. B-
Branden Albert - pro bowler...we overpaid, but it was based on market price. fills our biggest hole on the team. B
Earl Mitchell - lead all DT in tackles last season...versatile, solid player; fits better as a 4-3 DT than Soliai did. got him at $1.5m less than Soliai signed for. B
Randy Starks - 2x pro bowler, our best DT last season...re-signed on a team friendly deal, less than he is worth. gives us leverage when negotiating with Odrick next year. A-

*Extra Credit - found a sucker, i mean team, willing to trade us for Stanford Princess Jon Martin. got a 7th rounder when he would have be released.

Total Grade: B+

great job by Hickey and Dawn. Still have big holes at RT, G, CB but we are still $25.5m under the cap. nothing splashing but solid work and the team is upgrade. love it so far.

so far, so good. I'll give hickey an A, with the caveat that he remain aggressive and spend the ~25 million FA money on another "impact" players, especially on the OL. I dont want to see us sitting on a pile of cash while quality FAs at positions of need (RT, OG, LB, CB, RB etc) get snatched up, leaving us to pick through lower tier payers that might not be better than what we already have at those spots. i know its still early, but i dont want to have to wince every time an OG or RT gets signed in the next few days

We need great players. The other moves don't really matter when you lack great players. Fans spend too much time deciphering specifics when it invariably rounds out to middling. A general manager is defined by whether or not he identifies great players in the draft.

I think we're a C caliber team so I'll save time and stress and give everything a C until we change that via a sampling of great players.

The stadium, obviously, is an F.

If we patch it and waste another 25 years, that C becomes as high as we can aspire, on average. As long as we're in that venue, idiots are running the show.

depressed much?

where did u get the false info that Earl Mitchell led all Dt in tackles last year. In fact Randy Starks had more tackles than him. There were quite a few Dt;s with more tackles than him.

there aren't any obvious bad contracts so that's a good thing provided albert can give us 3 years i don't much like the fact that he's gonna turn 30 in year 1 of the deal but just gonna hope it works out i guess...but there also are some obvious holes especially on the oline that havent been dealt with...cant just depend on even high pick rookies to step right in and right the ship...

no philip wheeler like obvious from the get go mistakes...

I think B+ so far. My main factor in that is seeing Veldheer sign for $7.5mm compared to Alberts contract. Not that I'm complaining. I like the moves so far, not just to fill holes but with economics in mind. I'd like to see a guard or center come along, and maybe another corner.
