Give a grade to each player (listed) the Miami Dolphins signed in free agency:

James Daniels, G: Signed a 3-year, $24 million contract. Daniels is expected to start at guard, addressing the Dolphins' offensive line needs.

Larry Borom, T: Signed as a swing tackle to provide depth behind Patrick Paul at LT. Borom has versatility with 27 career starts across multiple positions.

Zach Wilson, QB: Signed a 1-year deal to serve as the backup quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, WR: Signed a 2-year, $6.5 million deal. He adds size and physicality to the receiving corps alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Ifeatu Melifonwu, S: Signed a 1-year deal to compete for a starting safety role.

Ashtyn Davis, S: Signed a 1-year deal to provide depth and playmaking ability in the secondary.

Tyrel Dodson, LB: Re-signed on a 2-year, $8.25 million deal. Dodson is expected to be a starting linebacker.

Also, give an overall grading to the signings. Thanks!

I guess Daniel’s is the best as it is a position of need and he projects as a starter. That’s better than some who are depth or maybe even cut.
It would be great if we could get something out of Zach Wilson. Not expecting much as our prior back up QB choices have all failed.

Those look like solid low-cost signings in areas of need.
This is a good use of FA so far this season and our cap are concerned.

It's tough to grade these signings without adding context. Are we grading them against all-pros? Value? Fit for our team?

Obviously, if you are grading our bargain hunting against 30m/year FAs, then they're all gonna get Ds and Fs, but if you are grading for bang for the buck, then the ratings will be much higher.

Let me try this...

James Daniels, G: Signed a 3-year, $24 million contract. Daniels is expected to start at guard, addressing the Dolphins' offensive line needs. (If he's healthy and ready to go by week 1, this one was theft. If he's not, then it's a fail, but not even a big fail, because of the way his contract was written, we could cut him easily next year)

Larry Borom, T: Signed as a swing tackle to provide depth behind Patrick Paul at LT. Borom has versatility with 27 career starts across multiple positions. (Borum is a Guard who has been asked to play out of position in the past. He doesn't have the feet or the lateral mobility to play out wide. I think he's on the team to compete with Eich. One may be cut; we did the same thing with all of the cheap DTs last year).

Zach Wilson, QB: Signed a 1-year deal to serve as the backup quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa. (There isn't a backup QB on the planet that can run Tua's offense, Tua's way. Trying to find one is more or less impossible. So... taking a shot on a young guy with a live arm? Not the worst idea, especially considering that Jets QBs seem to always look better somewhere else... heh! Despite what the whiners have said, 6m for one year is pretty much the going rate.)

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, WR: Signed a 2-year, $6.5 million deal. He adds size and physicality to the receiving corps alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. (Cheap... and better than last year's idiot-- Dimwit Beckham)

Ifeatu Melifonwu, S: Signed a 1-year deal to compete for a starting safety role. (Ridiculously cheap. Will start unless McMorris beats him out)

Ashtyn Davis, S: Signed a 1-year deal to provide depth and playmaking ability in the secondary. (Will start unless we draft a Free Safety. He signed for about 12m/year less than Holland.... even if he isn't great... neither was Holland)

Tyrel Dodson, LB: Re-signed on a 2-year, $8.25 million deal. Dodson is expected to be a starting linebacker. (Again... cheap.)

There's a theme... cheap shots across the board... some will make it, some will suck. But there is one thing that most don't want to admit; the same thing is true on the big ticket FAs. A LOT of them will either suck, or get injured early too... but they cost a lot more.

I’m encouraged that this regime seems to understand what the problems were last year. While I don’t think they’ve done enough yet to correct these issues, they have addressed the oline, got a backup qb with experience, and seemed to have acquired a short yardage rb.
They also didn’t break the bank or jeopordized our future cap.

However, the main issue that has hurt us the past few years is injuries. Most of the players we signed have a history of injuries so there’s that. Griers view on that is that most players have a history of injuries and you can get a discount by signing guys coming off injuries. It just would be nice if we brought in some guys that had a history of being durable.

C+ overall this far.

How can you give Nick a C+ as he had 9 touchdowns last year and our two high priced WR’s only had 8 touchdowns. Dodson I think is a B. TE Brown is at least a C. Common Chad, really?

Solid B overall don’t feel like doing each individual. Few great signings a bunch of nice depth signings and bad ones like Zach Wilson/eich and borom I’m not a fan of atleast at each being guaranteed contracts even though they are smaller dollar wise

Well I thought about giving Nick a B- but his lack of production over his career and the fact we have Malik Washington playing alot as WR3, has me thinking he's not gonna get much playing time.

With injuries he could get into the B's for sure.

Dodson as a C+ is fair he's a good backup but he struggles to play against the run.

C+ isn't a bad grade, I just have a tough grading scale. C+ is a solid grade from me.

Overall a B? That's kinda high don't you think?

We signed two players that would be considered "solid starters" in this league and one of them is a Punter 😆

It's a D+ overall grade from me.

Daniels - A- The only worry is his injury history.

Borom - D If he is to be a backup OT. B If he is to be a backup OG.

Wilson - C He is a riskier signing than some who would have cost more but he does have more upside.

Westbrook-Ikhine - B Good value signing.

Melifonwu - B- Decent signing but injury history is a concern.

Davis - B Good value with some upside.

Dodson - B- He is excellent in coverage but not so good against the run.
