Great article about a great former Phin that some how needs to find his way to Canton some day.
Glad JT is getting in the HOF this year (Im going to the enshrinement), our 10th HOFer, but I think Miami is still very "underrepresented" in the hall.

Richmond Webb ... Zach Thomas ... Dick Anderson and/or Jake Scott ... Bob Kuechenberg ... and our owner Joe Robbie, all some how need to get to get to Canton some day I hope. (Suh and Wake in the far future)

Heres the article about Webb if anyone is interested.

Nice find. I was young back then but Webb always stood out to me as a great LT worthy of HOF recognition. Especially in staving off HOF great Bruce Smith (along with the many other excellent pass rushers who mainly lined up on the left said in those days) on numerous occasions.

No...run blocking wasn't good enough IMO...you can't put every good player in Canton...it is supposed to be reserved for the rare.

He was a good player, not a great player. He was a finesse blocker who was made to look better than he was because of how great Dan Marino was at getting rid of the ball and manipulating the pocket.

Marino still had a quick release, but he was quickly becoming more unathletic at about the same time their chief rivals, the Bills, were harassing Marino with All-Pros like Bruce Snith, Daryl Talley, and Cornelius Bennett. Thankfully, Shula recognized that and put together one of his few respectable draft classes anchored by Webb and Sims. By year 7 or 8 of Marino's career, he needed better protection and Webb provided it.

Why don't you ask Bruce smith about webbs greatness.

Tough call, but I say he comes up just short. He did a great job pass protecting but was average as a run blocker. He definitely controlled Bruce Smith!
Bob Kuechenberg should be the next Dolphin to get inducted and then Joe Robbie.

A lot more deserving than most of the names that get thrown out there for consideration, both on the Dolphins and throughout the rest of the league.

Webb was drafted the day my daughter was born.
TV wasn't working so my father in law brought me a portable radio to listen to the draft.
I listened to the draft while holding my little girl in the hospital room.
Good memories and reminds me how fast time passes.
She will 27 on 4/21.

Solid LT that benefited from Marino's quick release and crafty pocket movement.

Not a HOF though and that is ok.

He was underrated because of playing next to a very good OG in Sims plus having the greatest QB ever. He was unbelievably reliable and routinely had to protect Dan's blindside knowing if he screwed up Dan would call for his head! On top of that he stayed healthy and was/is a genuinely great human being on and off the field. I've been a fan since 84 and he's the greatest offensive lineman the Dolphins have had in that time. I know some my scoff at that but that's how I feel and I honestly believe he belongs in the hof.

It use to be reserved for the rare, but lately any player that was popular seem to get in.......Terrell Davis for instance.

TD didn't get in because he was popular, he got in because he had a tremendous, if short, peak. Webb was an excellent pass protector, but his work as a run blocker was not impressive enough for the HoF. To play devil's advocate, on the other hand, they are putting in DEs and LBs who only rushed the passer and didn't play run defense, so on those grounds and to preserve symmetry he definitely should be in.

Four all-pro seasons and voted to all 90's team by hall of fame. He should be in the conversation but I don't think his career quite lives up to other tackles in the hall.

i agree w this and have been vocal about it in the past. I loved Webb for how clean he kept Marino's blind side. But you would have thought we could've run over the left side w him and Keith Sims but that wasn't the case. At times it seemed we didn't even practice run blocking or something. The lack of completeness in his game could cost him a HOF spot. Meuch and Anderson should be in IMO without question. Webb is more borderline.
