The ten guys we have signed or traded for that are virtual locks to make the team (wilford, smiley, torbor, ferguson, starks, anderson, grigsby, ryan, McCown, Bell)

Will comprise 19% of the roster (10 spots out of 53)

However, they will only count for 18% of the cap ($21,300 of the $116,000 cap).

Smiley and Starks cap numbers go up to 6 million and 5 million each after 3 years. But even still - very manageable. In addition, if we decided to cut these players at that point it would actually save some pretty decent cap space. So, for instance, if for some reason any of these players doesn't play well and we wanted to cut them - it wouldn't hurt us too much. By that time perhaps we would have suitable depth to replace them anyways.

The crazy thing is, these guys are VETERAN free agents that, at this point, will make up the core of our team. The majority of the other players will be playing out their rookie contracts. Outside of Porter, Holliday, and Taylor most of the other guys are either pretty young or have small contracts.

If we draft well, this team is in good shape moving forward! The signings were even more in line than I thought!

r u a financial advisor or account? look into it

After reading this I totally agree with you, it's one thing too throw numbers out there, but it is a horse of a different color when you can do it with such substance.

The #1 pick should change that

No, just kidding, good analysis. Well done, my friend.

The key, as you said, is that we have to break the recent (last 8 yrs) trend and actually draft well. My money is on Tunaland, given their history, but I felt Saban was going to make a difference too. His drafts have turned out to be as bad as Wannys. At any rate, very good post that makes good sense of the signings that they've made...of course they also have to be able to contribute and again, we have to reserve judgement to Tunaland...

Especially with the way the cap keeps going up, which means it's likely that if the 'Phins had to cut them, the cap hit would be an even smaller percentage of the cap space.

Hail Parcells and co. theyre off to a great start setting themselves up for success by making up the core of the team with cheap veterans that will cost low and contribute to the team. Add a good draft and lets see what we can do...If not we hit the free agency hard next year

Now, Now.... lets not get tooo carried away shall we. I mean nobody does it as consistently bad as Dave. NOBODY!

When he is not picking bad players in the draft he is trading picks for known bad players, the guy had a special talent for avoiding talent.
