Greg Bedard's Afternoon Blog Up

Jason Taylor was back at practice after missing the morning with an illness. Looked quick, too;

Its good to see that JT is back on the field.

This is my 6000th post :D

This had to be funny stuff right there :lol:

Nice lighthearted moment when tight ends coach Derek Dooley had to push Alex Holmes back onto the field. Randy McMichael came over to give Dooley some playful lip, and Dooley pushed him back. Both were laughing;

Vernon Carey as the starter at LT? I'm conflicted. On the one hand that gives me a feeling of terror and foreboding, on the other hand I really want to believe that my beloved dolphins have all the sudden discovered their LT for years to come. I'm leaning more toward terror and foreboding...

So, it only took him half a day to get better? Jeesh, this guy must really be a stud.

Sounds like the QB's are having a hard time in the offense. Hopefully it has more to do with the weather.

Saban said in his interview that he was going to practice this morning, but sent him to a doctor anyways as a precaution.

I would give them the benefit of the doubt, with the rain and wind today you have to believe throwing is a nightmare.

They've always said they wanted to "give him a look" there. There's also a lot of early talk that players are saying that Carey has looked better.

See the fundamental difference was that Wanny stuck him on the second team from day one and never looked back. OL need reps early on so the only way were going to find out about Carey is if he gets a lot of time with the first unit.

I'm thinking the same thing. He's the most talented lineman we have. But I'm not thinking he'd be better than McIntosh over there. And that would be a waste. Obviously the Phins are giving Carey every opportunity to play. But last I heard, he still wasn't up to par with the starters from a mental standpoint. Still deficient in a lot of areas.

What interests me is this: Last year the Dolphins gave up a lot to pick Carey. And the word has been that the Dolphins are going to try to get him on the field anywhere they can in 2005.

Saban and Houck are under no obligation to play this guy. Like Feeley, he's not one of their guys. They aren't responsible for bringing him on. So they've got nothing to prove in that regard. And yet they're still moving him all over the line, trying to find a starting position for him. Even putting him out there with the first team today.

You would think that Carey has earned this by showing signs of improvement. But Saban says put no stock in what you see now. McIntosh could be with the first unit tomorrow. So we'll see.

- Saw our first vestiges of the 3-4, with JT standing up on the right side. Interesting...and the possiblities for him are endless

aha seems like all the rumours of JT not being pleased with occasionally switching to OLB was plain off wrong.

Thx for the link Muck :)

I think a good test will come tomorrow for Carey...he'll have to go against J.T. (he didn't this morning since Jason wasn't there)

The QB's usually always look horrid at this point, plus the weather didn't help. It's nothing to worry about yet, but if they're still playing like this come training camp...THEN worry :lol:
