The bar gets raised for what has become a crowded group of wide receivers on the Dolphins roster when OTA work begins this week.
We caught up with Greg Camarillo and Davone Bess at Akin Ayodele’s charity pool tournament earlier this month and neither admitted to any surprise that the Dolphins addressed their position in the draft in the form of Patrick Turner of USC and Brian Hartline of Ohio State.

“Obviously we took a lot of criticism last season for not having enough depth, so we knew something was going to happen eventually,” Bess said. “But at the same time this raises (expectations), to go out and be the best we can be.”

Camarillo, who said he remains on schedule to be full speed by the start of training camp but isn’t running yet, said he didn’t follow the pre-draft hype but that he was “impressed with the people we picked up.

“With these coaches the whole theme is competition,” he added. “Competition brings out the best in each position and bettering the team through that. That’s what they did. They brought in some corners to compete, and they brought in receivers to compete, and we all know we’re going to be fighting for playing time.”
Camarillo said all the talk that the Dolphins were short on talent at the position didn’t bother him.

“I’ve always been used to being an underdog, people telling me I wasn’t talented enough. People said going into last year that we didn’t have enough talented receivers. But you saw the production in our passing game, so it obviously was a solid group of receivers. We don’t need a big name; we know we have big talent. We needed depth and they went and picked up some talent there, so it’ll be interesting to see how everything works out.”

I guess the Hartline pick makes more sense now.

If Camarillio is not ready, it does make a lot of sense. I just dont know if Camarillio comes back if Hartline does better then him, as all comparisions have Hartline being better then Camirillio in his role. But we shall see.

I still think Camarillo gets PUP'd to give him a chance to recover. If a receiver gets hurt, the Cam can come off PUP at the appointed time to take up the slack. Might happen to Marion as well.

all in all, i am jsut really pumped to see how this whole WR situation pans out by the beginning of the season!!!

Camarillo will be in the starting lineup if his injury doesn't dictate otherwise. He was too clutch and productive last year to lose his spot to these unpolished kids.

I agree 100%. The front office is pretty smart and this is a way for them to keep another WR.

Here's the thing about Camarillo. He may not have great measurables but he's a real player. He produces on the field. He saved our season in 2007 and he was our leading receiver til he got injured. Even though he didn't play a full season he had comparable numbers to Ginn and Bess. He's a good player for us and this team is better when he's on the field.

Camarillo will be fine, he's been around long enough to know what to do to make the team, and the coaches know his ability. He'll get a spot, as will Bess. The only way either get unseated is if the other receivers completely tear it up and give the coaches no choice. I doubt it, but stranger things have happened...

I think it becomes a numbers game of how many WR's we're going to carry....you might not like it but Hartline and Turner are as close to locks for the roster as this team gets at the position.

If they find another real player (and I completely agree with you that's what Cam is and so did the FO and they showed it by extending his contract) who has better measurables then, like it or not, Cam is D.T.R. (Down The Road.) Life in the NFL...

His injury also puts his status into question. We don't know (and neither does NE with Brady BTW) exactly how he will come back from surgery. I think Turnline is insurance and competition.
