Greg Cote's column in the Herald was perfect. Although I must warn the TRUE FANS not to read it because it does make the point that the Fins are less than a championship team...right now. Some of you are really going to hate this.

Thing is, supposedly being less than a championship team doesn't bother me. Do I expect this team to win now? No. I want the team to win, but it's a bit much to expect a championship from this team.

But who gives a damn, who is a championship team at this point of the season? It's the frickin first game. I hope to see this team mature into champions which is why you pay attention to the entire year and see how the games play out. But some people want to see that greatness now and if they don't then they give up on the entire year, or at least that's how a lot of fans are reacting right now, but hopefully they snap out of it and realize they are overreacting. It's pathetic. I hope that all the doomsdayers from last night just stay in bed if the Dolphins make some serious noise the rest of the season.

The Steelers weren't playing at a championship level until late into last season. It's a long season, as long as the fins can keep themselves out of a big hole they still have a chance to do great things.

When does a team start to look like a champ? Sure isnt Week 1.

So how can you say they arent contenders after 60 mins of football?

I still think the Fins are still one of the best teams in the league and mistakes and the secondary will cost us a few games, but I think the Fins can make a deep playoff run. This first game showed me that we are able to play with the Super Bowl champs and that when our secondary improves we could play with anyone and have an extremely good chance to win. A lot of Super Bowl teams have had weaknesses like the 2000 Ravens but they still get it done. I'm not saying this team is a Super Bowl team, but I am saying that the Fins are back and I can see them doing anything this season and that future offseasons will improve the team not just fix the holes. I may be a little foolish for being a blind homer but if I'm not optimistic and believe this team can do anything (which I truly believe they can) then whats the point of saying well this team is decent, no, that isn't good enough for me I will settle for nothing less then this 2006 team being the best Fins team ever, because in the heart of every true fan they are (we can still question them, but we all still believe that they can go 19-0 and thats why we get so upset after a loss).

I am sick of this "true fan" stuff but there is alot of merit that goes along with the fact that alot of "dolphins" fans seem to have their blinders on when it comes to the reality of how good we really are.

Do we have a very good coach. Yes. Do we have a good wideout in chambers a solid receiving tight end in Randy? Yes. How about a rb with a huge upside and a good supporting cast of wideouts? Yes. We finally have a solid qb in DC as well.

On the flip side we have a patchwork o-line and secondary that will cost us games. I have no clue how SI and other mags could think that all of a sudden with culpepper, we are all of a sudden this team that is gonna be a superbowl contender. Do I want to win the superbowl. Of course. I am grounded in reality though and think that we should be able to make the playoffs, we just are missing a few integral pieces of the puzzle right now. If that makes me a bad fan to realize what we are, then so be it. I however, am not going to buy into the notion that we are better than we are, so I can sulk for a few days after a loss with the notion that we were supposed to beat the world champs in their backyard.

I have been a diehard fan for as long as I can remember, but its time for alot of dolphins fans to wake up and see what is going on. Don't be so blind by your desire to win that you forget we are 2 seasons removed from a 4-12 team and that it will take some time..god knows I want to see the lombardi trophy in miami this year as much as you do..

Like I said in my post I may be a little foolish and a bit blind, but I also said that I didn't know if the Fins are a Super Bowl team this year. I will believe though this team is a playoff team and a true fan is a fan that stands behind a team even when they are down and out and I direct that statement towards the fans that start bashing the Fins after one game and standing behind a team does not mean not questioning and getting frustrated with them. I myself say the Fins secondary is bad off right now (keyword is now) and I also believe Culpepper will struggle some, but the fans that leave a team like a lot did in the 2004 season aren't true fans. I'm not attacking fans that say this team has some problems, but am attacking the fans that start saying this team is finished after one game. However answer me one question how in any way is this team any worse than the 9-7 team last year?
