Nobody has ever said that Gus doesn't have the arm to be a good QB. The big question has been accuracy and consistency. Could all of the dropped passes and overthrown passes have been due to the unfamiliarity with his new receiving corp. With 3/4 of the season under their belts I think that Gus and the receivers are building trust. With every successful drive and completed pass these guys trust each other more. The offense is starting to play with a swagger, they look confident like they expect to make the necessary plays. If Gus wins out and keeps throwing more TDs than INT, I don't think that having him come back next year would be a bad thing. Gus is obviously comfortable in the offense, he is building good chemistry with the receivers, and no new QB would ready to start next year. Maybe Cleo is someone they want to develop, but they are bringing in Printers (a carbon copy)this week so I don't think they are sold on Cleo. Sage might put up a good fight next year in PS, but I don't think that he will even be a Dolphin next year. That leaves a free agent or a rookie draft pick. Unless we draft Leinart no rookie will be ready to start, and any free agent would need at least half a season to completely learn the playbook and build chemistry with the receivers. So with that said I believe that Gus is still our guy next year.

Gus did a nice job avoiding the rush last week. Even the play action is looking better.

Gus will likely be our guy next year by default. That was pretty much a given all year. The good news is, if you are right and they are getting familiar with each other and the system, and the timing is now improving as a result of that, Gus won't be a bad thing to watch next year.
Although, he still is not the solution. My guess is that some of the improvement is due to those things and just the time together to build chemistry, like you say. Also, some of it is that he just had his best game. We have definitely seen his worst, and now we have seen his best (or close to it).
But can he sustain it on a regular basis? No, but maybe we will see more good games than bad as they build that trust and chemistry that you talked about. I think Gus will be our QB next year and it won't be as bad as this year (earlier). My hope is that when someone else takes over, he remains our backup veteran/mentor.

gus has been better, but i will not be happy if he is the starter next year. but i have a suspicion that he and lemon will compete for the job next year

Good post, Gus isnt the anwer but hes good back up, he'll be here one more year and it does seem that the team is developing a good chemistry.

I think so. Gus looked superb last game. That throw to marty booker late in the game on that crucial 3rd down was AMAZING. too bad it didnt lead to points.

This is a real good point that I have been trying to make in some of my posts... I think GUS has finally gotten into sync with the receivers. CHAMBERS does not do well with balls thrown low or at his chest! He is a HANDS GUY!!! GUS I think has finally figured that out. CHAMBERS seems to ALWAYS catch the balls that he has to reach out for... He has GREAT hands but putting it into the "BREADBASKET" is not his strength. MCMICHAELS and BOOKER are the "BREADBASKET" receivers... WELKER seems like he can catch just about anything! GUS, I believe, has finally figured that out. I think "ole" Scotty may have figured that out as well!

Oh man.

Gus is not good. His quarterback rating... even after his unusually good game in San Diego is about 70.

He is the 27th ranked quarterback in the NFL.

27th. Last week he was lower.

Having him be the quarterback next year would be shameful. We have put up with bad qbs for how many years now?

Think on this: Gus is a worse quarterback than Fielder. Seriously. Worse. His whole career.

And people are willing to waste another year of not developing a quarterback for this?

But I think Saban is smarter than that. So I doubt we have to worry about it.

The deal is not that Gus is finally getting in sync. the deal is that Linehan is now seeing the entire football field and is communicating with everyone. Booker broke off his route when Gus was in trouble, Chambers finding the open holes of the zone defense.

I think people's perceptions of Gus' accuracy is way overblown. Any QB would be inaccurate for a while under these circumstances. Gus does not suck. CC does not suck. It takes two to tango and that is the real point I have been trying to make. It takes a team, not one QB to make things happen.

But the main reason for all this sudden success is because Linehan moved to the sideline. they are talking to each other in between series instead of talking on a phone getting interupted. Im surprised all you football know it alls havent even noticed this. Isnt it obvious?

I think Chambers is playing with a bit more aggressiveness. Gus has thrown a lot of catchable drops this year that these WRs are catching.

I think everybody noticed, it's been much discussed. Though the improvement isn't because of "phone interruptions", it's because Saban busted Linehan down there after really, really bad playcalling cost us two games in a row.

So Gus has always had bad communication with his recievers? For ELEVEN YEARS?

Gus is not, was not, and will not be an accurate or good quarterback.

I like the man, but no one in football would agree that he just hasn't had the right circumstances.

His QB rating this year is 70.8.

His QB career rating is 75.2.

I have no idea at all why Fieldler (who I was not a fan of) is so hated and Gus is given such slack.

In all four of Fieldler's full seasons here he was better than Ferotte... two of them signifigantly better.

dang....ok, he played well in the Chargers game, but still he is sadly the good one game, bad the next type of QB, and that's what sux, which means....he's gonna be off next week, cuz he was hot this week
