thats a good point but the first point was good to about thrid downs and when behind.

I'd doubt Mcnair's stats were much better under those circumstances, and McCown has Feeley written all over him. If Brees tests the market, go get him.

I'm not really defended Gus here, just pointing some stuff out that is my opinion and is more than likely supported with facts. 3rd downs are tough for any QB, especially if it's a 3rd and somewhat long situation. And the toughest time for most QBs are when coming from behind because the defense usually knows the pass is coming. I'd like to see these stats compared to other QBs in the league.

To be fair...... can you post McNair and McCown's numbers in those same scenarios?

Gus is Gus
He isnt great, he really isnt even good but he did do an ok job for us and brought out the best in CC this season.

It was with Reggie Howard, too. And that's almost as relevant.

Take a look at the stats and the games. Sage pushed Chambers over the edge into the pro-bowl, not Gus.

Right -- it's a good "experiment," but you need a "control group." If Gus's numbers aren't significantly worse than those of the pro-bowl QBs in these categories, then you could actually make the argument that Gus is GOOD.

Now I don't expect that to happen, but you have to provide the other data to be able to make any conclusion.

Sure. Havent looked at them, so I could be wrong in thinking that they were better.

Gus hardly brought out the best in Chambers. In one game's worth of time, Chambers caught 16 passes for 281 yards from Sage. With Gus, he averaged 4.4 catches and 55 yards per game. Sage brought out the best in Chambers. Without him, Chambers' numbers would have been worse than the past few years with Fiedler and Feeley.

That's a good point, and true. But likely most Qbs will still be much better than Gus, because over the long haul, while they are likely to see a similiar 3rd down drop, they had farther to fall.

I haven't looked at the numbers, but my guess is that McNair on 3rd down is about as good as Gus overall. Given a large enough sample.

I don't really care about McCown, he hasn't played enough to show me anythin.

We went from 4 wins last year to 9 this year, some people will never be happy! We all agree we need to upgrade the position, but why bring in another transition guy when we already have him.
