Wow. Didn't realize that. This makes me believe he is on the way out. He isn't a true or pure MLB, which is what we lacked this season without Zach Thomas. I expect MIA to draft a MLB and maybe even pursue one in FA, depending on who is available to man the MIKE while the rook is groomed or competes with Akin Ayodele.

Maybe we pursue Bart Scott to play MLB, if BAL decides to sign Lewis, Suggs, and Brown instead.

However it plays out, I think Crowder will get more money elsewhere...

The only way I see them giving Crowder a big contract is if they feel that they can trade Roth for a draft pick and can start Crowder opposite Porter at SOLB? Hmm?

He was OLB with us for a while too...

No he wasn't. He has played the WILB alongside Thomas and the MIKE when Thomas got injured. He never played any of our OLB spots. Check your stats.

rookie season. 4-3 linebackers were Spragan (I think), Thomas, Crowder

Crowder has been a starter dating back to 2005. What kind of games have you been watching? We ran the 4-3 up until this year.

Yep

This is the first year where we have run a TRUE 3-4 . . . last year Capers didn't know what he wanted to do . . . we had 4-3 personnel but he tried his best to run a 3-4 . . . we were last in defense, so the attempt failed.

Yes Crowder has been ILB the first 3 years . . . WHEN we did like a hybrid defense, but still most of the times we stayed in the 4-3 . . . and Crowder was the OLB in that formation, with Thomas in the middle. When Zach got hurt last year, Channing OFFICALLY became our MLB.

naw man, your wrong, his rookie season he played OLB with Thomas @ MLB and if im not mistaken Spragan @ the other OLB position. but thats why i say you cant HATE Crowder he is not doing Horrible @ MLB when he NEVER played it before, he can learn the system and also he might be a good OLB in a 3-4 but since we are sooooooooooooooooooo thin @ MLB they probably havent tried that yet. oh well i hope he does good whereever he goes but I personally would love to keep him.

Actually like many others have stated Crowder played OLB as a rookie and up until this year was basically an OLB. Bart Scott has also been an OLB most of his career. At inside linebacker i truly dont see Bart scott as an upgrade over Crowder. crowder does not have Ray Lewis beside him Scott does and statisically Crowder has been better at ILB than Scott. On that note in the games I watch I dont see Scott as any better at ILB. Crowder is actually better at OLB than Roth so Im not sure why they would have to trade Roth. crowder is our only longterm LB so not sure why so many people think we should just let him walk.

He was Definitely an OLB for us when he first came here but i could have sworn he was a MLB in College

He was.

Here's an archive of NFLDraftCountdown.com's inside linebacker rankings for the 2005 draft.

1. Channing Crowder - Florida - 6-01/4 - 252 - 4.71

He was a MLB for the Gators in college, then he moved to OLB in the 4-3 as a rookie with us because Zach was already there, then he moved back inside - beside Zach - once we started dabbling with the 3-4 defense.

That's not an OLB according to 3-4 definitions. Spragan would be considered playing the SAM, but not the WILL.

The WILB in the 3-4 is the 4-3 equivalent to the WLB. That is not an OLB. OLB of the 4-3 would be the RE. So that's what I meant.

not following you at all.

we havent ran the 3-4 crowders whole dolphin career. he was an OLB in the 4-3 with us.

4-3 defense has 4 down lineman and 3 lbs: A will, a Sam, these two are referred to as your olb's, and a MLB.

Personally I perfer more pressure inside the tackles between the gaps in a 4-3 defense (2DT's and 2 DE's with 3 LB's). This defensive formation can push the pocket inside pressuring the QB to move off his spot by doing this the ends can get the sack or pressure him back inside for the the DT's to sack.

In a 3-4 defense (3 down lineman and 4 LB's) it is much tougher to generate a pas rush because you have to rush your LB's to which makes the pass much more easier to make by any QB. It opens up the space between. I have Tivo'ed all the games. I am convinced that when they rush 5 or 6 they get pressure up the middle causing the QB to make a quick descision or be sacked.

Did guys know that in all of are games we ran a 3-4 Nickel or Dime Package most of the time. Also, on JP sacks all them come from a straight bull rull on the end or on a blitz.

So the 34 will work but it is very volunerable to run and pass.

Their run defense was very good but, there pass was not so good. It can and will get better.

Which do you guys perfer 34D, 43D, 64D Nickel or Dime?
