Hakeem Nicks showed up to the North Carolina Pro Day 14 pounds heavier than he weighed in at the Combine.
It's unclear if he did this purposely or simply has been a coach potato since February, but it's not easy to gain this much weight in just over a month. Nicks stood on his Combine forty-yard dash, but posted a weak short shuttle time (4.43). NFL people will be looking for answers after this.

Seems like Nicks has dissapointed several scouts and now it has made it to the NFL.com page. I think Nicks drops to the second round. I really hope we trade down cause there will be plenty of capable talent in round 2.

Lets the crying begin....:boohoo:

fishy, told ya there were reports that he didnt work out that well. :hump:

I think he will be on the board with our 2a. scouts sometimes place too much importance on what happens after the season and forget what the guy did on the field of play.

IMO, Nicks is the 2nd best receiver in this draft BUT he will be the 4th or 5th one taken (behind Crabtree, Maclin, Harvin and DHB).

I have never saw him as the Dolphins pick...this just helps my eye sight.

I dont see Miami taking a reciever early regardless. You also have to think about the fact Miami is rumored to want a big physical reciever and Nicks at 6'1 is not that big to me. I think a guy like Kenny Britt fits the bill more. I dont know Im not that much of a Nicks fan.

I have said Miami takes a reciever later in the draft where they have had much success. I think the first couple picks will be to sure up the Defense. Atleast the first three, I think OLB, CB and DT are greater needs. CB is by far our biggest need in this draft and why many have said Davis could be there at 25 I think Miami likes Butler, Sean Smith and Alphonso Smith more than Davis.

If you ask me we need a big physical receiver, we got all small guys...and Wilford. I doubt we'll go with one in the first round. Im sure Parcells got his eye on some talented guys who are under the radar. I havent done much lookin into what other receivers are out there other than the usual mentioned ones.

One NFL scout opined that Hakeem Nicks has "got to have a weight problem" after he showed up heavy to North Carolina's Pro Day.

"He looked like a fat tight end not a lean receiver," the scout said. "This is the most important few months of his life and he gains a ton of weight. I don’t get it. Many scouts and coaches went away very disappointed." Profootballtalk hears that Nicks was 16 pounds heavier than his 212-pound Combine measurement, but has already shed most of the extra weight.

Looking like a TE is not good, he is sounding like this year Dwayne Jarrett and I think this nonsense will cost him the 1st round.

Phillip Merling last year. Sports hernia, puts on weight.

I think Hakeem is a hard worker and has a month to drop that weight anyway. There's no denying the guys talent and skills. I'd still be happy with him, and if this causes him to fall to our 2a...even better.

What it doesn't say on rotoworld but does say on profootballtalk is that Nicks actually tweeked his hamstring at the combine and hasn't been able to work out. I am sure it is just a precautionary measure to not further the injury. I don't think he will have any problem taking the weight off once he is able to workout again. It also states that he has a workout scheduled with the Dolphins.

This strikes me as the epitome of overblown counter-intelligence from teams that are secretly hoping he falls to them.

Hakeem Nicks Packs On The Pounds

Last week, Penn State’s Aaron Maybin raised eyebrows at his Pro Day with a performance fueled by a stunning, “you-wouldn’t-like-me-when-I’m-angry” increase in his physique.

North Carolina’s Hakeem Nicks also showed off a new body last week – but not in a good way.

Since tweaking his hamstring at the Scouting Combine, Nicks had been unable to work out. And, as a result, he gained roughly 15 pounds in three weeks. (NFL.com has the number as 14; we’ve heard that he gained 16 pounds.)

As one scout who attended the session opined: “He looked like a fat tight end not a lean receiver. . . . He’s got to have a weight problem. This is the most important few months of his life and he gains a ton of weight. I don’t get it. Many scouts and coaches went away very disappointed.”

That said, we’re told that Nicks already has shed much of the weight, and that he’ll be working out privately for the Bears and the Dolphins.

The guy had a bum hamstring and was forced to just stay off it. Within a week of being cleared to work out again, he's already shed most of that weight. I know from experience, as probably do most people...even if you hydrate often, if you are regularly working out, your weight will probably bounce around one level, and if you're not able to work out at all, your weight gets to an equilibrium at a higher level.

And that "scout" who talked about him looking like a chubby tight end, that's just ridiculous. I saw pictures of Nicks at his Pro Day, he looked absolutely nothing of the sort.

He came in overweight but the stuff about scouts being disappointed, him looking like a chubby tight end, "he must have a weight problem" etc...please. That's just guys trying to float stuff out there hoping it sticks and then he falls to them.
