COWBOYS TAG HAMLIN
With the deadline for using the franchise tag looming at 4:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, the Cowboys have used theirs on safety Ken Hamlin, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.
Hamlin signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys last year during free agency. He started in every game, and had a career-high five interceptions.
The move might have been prompted in part by the decision of the Vikings to cut safety Dwight Smith, since the Vikings might have pursued Hamlin aggressively in free agency.
The use of the tag on Hamlin also means that left tackle Flozell Adams will become an unrestricted free agent.

It's not set in stone yet that Flozell is coming to Miami.

Sorry to hear about Hamlin but I think you are wrong about Flozell. Why spend all that money when we already have a young version in Carey? Plus he doesn't get all the off side's that Flozell is known for.

The nice thing about Flo is we know what he can do in the NFL and he can step right in and be a starter because he knows our system.By the way he is 6'7 340lbs,that don't hurt either.

i say forget adams is old and i have a friend who is a cowboys fan and he says he commits like 2 false penalties a game...no thanks...

Gotta say that I am happy that he got tagged. I am not a big fan of overpaying for a safety. That is a position that should be drafted and developed. Just my opinion.

From Dr.Z's 2007 All-Pro team article:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/dr_z/01/09/all.pros/1.html

TACKLES (Flozell Adams, Jason Peters) I'd never picked Adams on my All-Pro team and I didn't plan to this year. I mean, his technique was just so sloppy. He kind of engulfs people. I wasn't even going to do a grading on him, along with the other lads. But then I was going through my DEs and the Giants' Osi Umenyiora flunked out, basically because of a pair of zeros against the Cowboys.

Now a zero in my system is very rare. It doesn't just mean no sack, it means no outstanding defensive play of any kind ... force against the pass or against the run, tackle near the line, even enough penetration to blow up a play. All those get a check mark of some kind. But Flozell held Osi to nothing. So I looked at him more closely, or rather, at his opponents.

Jason Taylor of Miami. Zero. Huh? I know he's been beaten up this year, but a zero for Jason? I'd never seen that. Rosevelt Colvin of the Patriots. Zero. Andre Carter of Washington. Zero. Schobel of Buffalo, a single force. Cole of Philly, who's a good active rusher, two tackles on running plays. I had found the rarest commodity of all, an offensive tackle, which are just so difficult to come by these days. And I didn't even do a grading on Flozell, his drive blocking, etc. Just the guys he faced.

Yeah....he'll do.

He is and he does. Then again, while Schefter reported the use of the franchise tag, he did not say if an agreement has been reached with Adams in any way - and it looks like the Cowboys are letting him walk.

This is important because it means the Cowboys: have a plan in place with Adams that we don't know about, or have someone on the team they feel is an improvement, or have a plan to address that spot in either free agency or the draft. Like it or not, that means they've joined the OT race now as things stand, and that makes them competitors.

Maybe they'll want J. Long and trade up with us...I know fat chance...but not as fat as some of the tackles I seen today at the combine.

If the Cowboys fall in love with anyone and put together a package to get the #1 overall, it'd be the best thing to happen to the Dolphins in a long, long, long time.

Not necessarily.....they may still TRY to work something out with Adams...but the deadline was today, so deal or no deal, they had to move on Hamlin. And they don't necessarily have a better option on the team OR a better option in FA....we didn't have those things and we still released Zach.

i cant disagree more with u there...what safety do u want to draft and devlop? i have heard that phillips from Miami univ. is ranked the best but even loyal cane fans say he is overrated..so tell me which guy u want..hamlin would of been great year..our secondary is the worst in the league....both safety injured and only 1 left is J Allen..yikes
