For those who aren't regularly checking the webcam, they are constantly replacing big sections of dying turf at Hard Rock...the sun lamps don't seem to be helping one bit. If they don't find a solution, expect to see Field Turf by next season...

The artificial grass stuff is really not bad at all. I played on it recently. I mean nothing compares to real grass, but that stuff is the best alternative and not too bad.

Is this just an observation? Or has it been reported? Just curious

I thought I remember reading something a long time ago that more ACL injuries happen on the artificial grass.

That grass had never time to settle and grab root. Within 3 weeks the preseason started and then it had double duty. The grass will have 6 month to grab root in the offseason.

Not sure if it's been reported, but every week a big chunk gets replaced...this week it's the endzones, home sideline and center logo area. Not to mention the entire field being replaced just a few weeks ago.

You're probably thinking of that terriblleeeeee turf **** the Texans had. The one where Welker got hurt. That stuff is pure trash.

AS far as the other fake stuff go, I am not sure how much worse it is. Again, nothing compares to real grass.

No way in hell do I want to have artificial crap for a field surface. Football is meant to be played outdoors on GRASS, No dome and no artificial turf!!!

We used to play football in a "dust bowl". Middle of the field was nothing but dirt. If it ever rained it was an absolute catastrophe.

Having the Canes and Dolphins play on it with such little time to take root has to be an issue.

I do check the webcam regularly and notice they are always replacing chunks of the grass.
I understand they swap logos, etc, but to need to rip the whole end zone out and replace it every time doesn't seem right.
I haven't officially heard they are having issues, but how can that be their planned procedure?
    Sidelines look beat, too.

Would it be ridiculous for Miami to have artificial turf in the endzones, so they could swap it out, depending who is playing?

I know it sounds kinda crazy, but it sounds like a better, more efficient, and more cost effective solution then ripping it out and replacing all the time.

Yes....I admit....I love grass. Lawn grass, not the high school kind!
I am always doing 199 steps to my own lawn, so I am interested in watching how Miami handles this new grass and the problems they run in to.

It's been replaced because the Hurricanes have played on it the day before for the past 2 weeks. So the logos have to be redone...

They just need to install field turf and be done with it. It's not like field turf is like the old astro turf. It's much better than that. Plus there would be less wear and tear on it and can handle back to back games in two days much better.

Is any of this true or just someones opinion? The end zones are being redone this weekend for the throwbacks perhaps that is why they are being replaced. I hope they keep the grass. It looks great and I do believe more injuries are occurring on field turf.

Teams up north use real grass and do not rely on turf taking root. They replace as needed.
KC, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Cleveland are just to name a few stadiums with real grass.
They do not rely on grass taking root, or actually growing during the winter. But I'm certain that they wish they could. So what they do is replace.

Real turf stadiums keep many people employed. Faux turf stadiums need less workers and less attention to the field.

I know they are painting the field at all the areas mentioned here, except the home sideline, to match the throwback unis we are wearing this week. Could that be what's going on? :idk:

I have officiated football games on both natural grass and field turf and I have to say that the field turf is tougher on my 50 year old knees and it also radiates a lot of heat. Perhaps the heat thing can be a bit of a home field advantage but I would rather see them keep natural grass and continue to maintain it just like they are now.

This is a hybrid. This is a cross bluegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, featherbed bent, and northern California sinsemilla. The amazing stuff about this is that you can play 4 quarters on it in the afternoon take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt at night on this stuff. I've got pounds of this stuff.

The endzones have to be redone because the paint can't be removed from this type of grass. The logos at midfield and on the sides have to be cut out and replaced as well. Four times this season the Canes and Phins play on the same weekend. That means the logo at midfield is cut out after the Canes game, replaced with new turf and then painted before the sun rises the next day.

The field has already been totally replaced once this season and the entire area between the hash marks has been replaced another time, not counting the endzones and logos.

Now the section that has sun all the time, the visitors sideline is dying out. Not good.

Scheduling hasn't been favorable, as others have mentioned. But this seems to happen very early. I have Canes season tickets. The sideline crew is already out there replacing chunks of turf during time outs in Canes games, long before the back to back duty with the Dolphins.

Engineers weren't gong to get everything correct, as I posted two years ago. That's why it's laughable for Bill Polian to claim it's the equivalent of a $1.2 billion stadium.

I'd hate to go back to artificial turf, even though the Dolphins' heyday was during:

    Poly Turf
    Synthetic Turf
    by American Biltrite

That was what it said on the sign above the small scoreboard in the east end zone of the Orange Bowl.

could be lawn grubs sucking the moisture out of the grass.

---------- Post added at 10:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:31 PM ----------

sheesh. They said the field temp could be over 100 degrees on that stuff.

Time for Carl's Northern California Cincameya hybrid grass.

It will hold up to a whole season, guaranteed.

I really like the improvements Ross has made to the stadium. However, the Dolphins need their own stadium where they don't have to share it with other teams and other events.

doesn't really make sense for a football team to have it's "own" stadium, esp marketing and business wise you want the stadium to be used as much as possible, as everyone that uses it, brings in money to the owner, and the owner needs to make back his money.

I get it. Like everything now a days it's all about the money. I'm a little old fashioned I guess. I don't like the corporate naming of stadiums either. But I understand the financial side of it all. My idea of a Dolphins only stadium is a perfect world dream and not reality.

Should've gone with the same turf they use in Foxboro from day one. That stuff is safe, and it's durable.

    But nooooooo...

That turf we have is gonna look like a dirty diaper by season's end, and it'll play like **** too.
