Branch and Hayes the latest to verbally fellate the rookie. All we get are positive tweets, but the superlatives being tossed around by veterans and coaches have me in a tizzy wanting to see him in action.

Can he really be an effective starter Day 1? He fits the wide 9 to a T.

His run stopping must be impressing...Maybe Tunsil, Wake and Taylor's tutoring is paying off.

Haven't heard one negative thing since he was drafted. Call it what you want, but many draft geeks said he was too raw at the position and his run stopping was a liability. I saw the validity of the critiques myself.

He was considered a late first, early second round pick. Yet, we ran our pick selection up to the podium as fast as we could.

With McMillan and Hayes potentially starting Day one, I dunno, someone needs to talk me down before I hyperventilate...

I hear ya ... I'm excited too. I think Harris has something special about him. Although I wasn't much of a fan during the pre draft hoopla, I've certainly become hooked on what could be with this young man. I put too much into measurable and forgot that, just because, a 4-3 DE isn't 6'5"-6'6" he can't play. There are things as grit and determination, both of which Harris has.

I wasn't a super fan of the pick myself but have heard nothing but good things. You can tell he really wants it ... as seen by him buddying up with JT.

He needs to be working on hand technique daily. Raw as hell coming out ... basically the polar opposite of Barnett. First step has to be lethal because the athlete is lacking. Can't let linemen get ahold of him so easily. Locating the ball was also an issue.

Obviously rooting for him but he's got an uphill climb to live up to the draft status IMHO. He's in a perfect situation though ... fits the defense to a 't' and (hopefully) won't be expected to carry the load. I think Gase said about 30 snaps a game which is about right.

I love the fact he is seeking out JT and getting all the info he can... whereas our previous first round de only wanted to sit around and collect a paycheck

I think he'll go through from obvious growing issues. While the work ethic is there, he just is not good right now against screens or the run, but you can't teach that first step. He's gonna make an impact this year.

Pump the brakes a bit. Let's see how he does in pads against real competition.

True but if media and fans are going to judge this early, its good that its hype and not "oh no hes getting manhandled"

He will have his growing pains, but I expect him to contribute right away.

hard not to be excited for him OR Rae Mac...good chance 1 of them starts and a decent chance they could both be starting at some point this year...Harris seems like a genuinely great person and hopefully becomes a great player for years to come

Only 32 sacks for the defense last year. This year we need 12 out of Wake, 9 out of Branch, 6 from Suh, 4 from Phillips, 3 or 4 from blitzes (LB, Cb, S) and I would not be surprised to see 8 out of Harris. Gotta get back closer to 40.

4 from Phillips? I don't know

That's certainly a positive even though it's just training camp. Hearing good things out of training camp doesn't always translate, but it sounds as if Harris has the right attitude and is working hard. That's the type of person you've got to root for.

Absolutely...this kid wants to be great, I for one is rooting for him.

I don't either...which is why we need a solid backup plan. He had 2 sacks as a rookie and .5 last year. They want a one-gapping interior player who can get into the backfield and disrupt. If he can't do it then they need to change schemes or get another disruptive player. It doesn't have to be sacks but TFL's. Suh had 12 TFL's last year. He is being held back by his counterpart. He had 23 his last year in Detroit.
