At any level? Prep? College?

So what makes people think he can become an elite QB?
 
Was Tom Brady ever an elite prospect? I do not care if he is or is not an "elite prospect". The only thing I care about is what he proves on the field.
 
I think he has a good understanding of the game and hes quick on his decisions. He did good at BYU which is not exactly a "top tier" school. But yeah, I think he can be a good player for this team because he knows what hes doing and hes quick on his decisions.

OK, let me rephrase:

what has john beck done on the field to make you believe he will be an elite QB?
 
Exactly, Finhopeful, exactly. Being an elite prospect means NOTHING. By the way, the kid has the tools...he has a cannon arm, and is accurate. Give him a good running game, lead by Ronnie Brown, and an offensive line that can block a sixth grader, and I think you'll see Beck produce good numbers.
 
i think kiper, mayock and mcshay all had him rated as the 5th best qb in last year's draft. he was never considered an elite prospect, he wasn't even invited to the senior bowl it wasn't until he showed off his arm at the combine until he started to climb the boards but even then he was never considered a franchise qb

The big difference is Tom Brady wasn't drafted in the hopes of leading a team and solving its QB problems. John Beck was. The Patriots got lucky. The Dolphins were stupid...IMO.

Seriously, when are we going to stop seeing these posts? Let's recap...Beck was playing on a team that went 1-15! If we're going to base the worth of players based on last year, I guess we don't have anyone who is "elite," including Jason Taylor. You can't judge Beck off of last season. I will say that the first two games he was in, I was really impressed. He sucked the next two, but he looked good in the Cinci game.

im not basing anything off his performance last season

but to think that a QB from a mid-major is going to develop into an elite QB in the NFL, you would have something that convinces you of that. So what did you see in Beck in HS and college?
 
Ryan Leaf was an "elite" prospect at one point in time. How did that turn out? When Beck went in last year, he was doomed from the start. Give Beck a solid and motivated offensive line, a healthy Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, and some more weapons at WR, then you'll see the real John Beck.
 
Not sure exactly why everyone is being defensive.

Good post bro. There has been ridiculous threads about Beck's abilities, some as far as trading him lol. Lets be patient and see what he can do. We will never figure out if we keep running every QB out of town. I think he can be a starter for this team and I mean a good starter. People just need to stay patient.

I dont know. I think all of these posts are valid. Its discussing who we may draft, who we may replace, who we may pick up in free agency. Dont get all the defense of Beck. I have yet to hear someone argue against drafting Dorsey by saying "Hey we drafted Soliai last year. He was a rookie last year on a 1-15 team. You cant judge Soliai yet" Everyone is up for discussion on a 1-15 team. Even Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas
