After several questionable personnel decisions made at the running back position, Adam Gase continues to find talent in the backfield. But has he been bailed out by luck?
Adam Gase coached a masterful game on Monday night as his Miami Dolphins pulled off a stunning upset over the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the New England Patriots, 27-20
Per the Miami Herald, Gase said after the game that the Dolphins played “complementary football,” something the Dolphins have had trouble accomplishing all season.

They are only questionable personnel decisions if they don't work out....

Maybe Coach Gase just correctly analyzed his RBs and concluded that he wanted to give the higher drafted player, Kenyan Drake the opportunity of more playing time as the starter and Ajayi was expendable. Why is this luck?

I don't know, from everything that's come out in public, I'd say that the relationship with Ajayi was just fractured to the point that they needed a football divorce.

I do think there's some luck to it, given that if Ajayi hadn't acted in a certain way, maybe he'd still be here and the coach wouldn't have realized that he needed to "stop compromising for anybody" as he put it.

If this author was a real fan he’d know Gase made it clear the term “starter” between Williams and Drake was pointless as both would get equal snaps. He specifically said neither was a starter in the traditional sense in his PC. This whole article tries to pretend Williams getting injured was a repeat of Foster getting injured last year making way for Drake to emerge as if he was a bench warmer.

An agenda article smearing facts to make his narrative fit.

Did the writer ever stop to think that picking up Foster was an indictment on Ajayi (attitude, work ethic etc.)and not the coach? Did the writer praise Gase for making a gutsy move by trading one of the fans favorite players knowing full well the backlash was going to be tremendous? Did the writer know that Drake and Williams were sharing snaps something that Gase prefers......a duel RB threat. I expect the Phins to pick up another young RB to complement Drake either through the draft or FA next year, if that works out, will that be luck as well? Adam Gase rebuilt our WR unit and our DBs unit and that seems to be working out quite nicely even with the injury to Tony Lippett, the others have stepped up and slowly improved especially X who just single handedly shut down NE's second best offensive weapon.....is that luck too? The writer needs to give Gase more credit for what he has accomplished and his decision making even after this hell hole of a year.

Occasionally all the planets line up and we have a dominating game against the patriots. The wildcat game was dominating. Sometimes the team responds to the lack of respect and negativity and come together ala the movie Major League. Everybody brings their "A" game and catch NE flat footed. Let's wait and see how the next three games play out before anointing Gase as the next Shula.

We all know this isn't the case... It's not like Gase is the first coach to do this though. It has happened with almost every team where someone is buried on the depth chart, then gets a shot due to Injuries, suspension, etc. And then they all of a sudden break out.

Every team has luck on the field (e.g., opponent's botched FG). Every team has luck in a low round draft pick or, what at the time is an injury that gives a backup a chance. Matter of fact, every human on earth has had dome luck. What matters is what Gase, in this case, does with it. We know there's bias when losing is lack of skill, not a run of bad luck, but WINNING IS LUCK. Some can't accept anything positive.

There are many players in this league with a lot of talent. Talent is just the cost of entry to the league. I believe it is fools gold to say that Drake was always capable of this type of performance. This position neglects that young players need to mature.

The other problem I have with the article is that it neglects the foundations required to be an innovative and effective play caller. The players need to know their assignments, to have discipline to execute their assignments, to have the skill sets to generate mismatches, and to have the work ethic to have success. The bottom line is that the execution consistency was not high enough during the first 10 games to be innovative. The execution during the last 2 games has been conducive to success.
