Hate to say it guys, but I think we missed out on someone. | FinHeaven - Miami Dolphins Forums

Hate to say it guys, but I think we missed out on someone.

eh... I thought we needed another safety, but as you said Byrd was picked before we got a chance. We all knew we needed CB help and Vontae and Smith have been good. I think people wanted another safety, but nobody would have guessed that Wilson and Bell would be as bad as they have been.

I thought we could've taken Darcell McBeth but he is more of a SS. I think the only safety we really wanted in Round 2 was Louis Delmas and he was the first pick in Round 2.

Byrd has looked nice, but I wouldn't have picked him over Vontae (we REALLY needed CBs)

I wouldn't have taken him over Vontae or Sean Smith, but certainly over White, even though he was picked after... but still I think we had a solid draft.... Turner will be nice once active his size is awesome!

the bills always land on picks in the secondary, it's one of the few good things they do. jabari greer on the saints was excellent, i thought he wasnt that good, shows you how deep the bills secondary is.
I liked this kid alot out of Oregon in the draft. I wanted us to get Sean Smith in the first, Robiskie with 2a and Byrd with 2b. I'm a little suprised at how quickly he transitioned to FS, since he played mostly cb at oregon. But it was clear comming out of the draft he had skills at both positions and many predicted he would be drafted as a FS.

I'm glad to see Byrd playing well, if they drafted Oher instead of Maybin, i think their overall draft would have been a success. Eric Wood and Levitre were two guards i really liked comming out of college too. Eric Wood is gonna make some probowls one day.

I wish we would have had a shot at Rey Mauluga with our 1st pick in the 2nd

Can you imagine being able to get Vontae, Mauluga and S Smith in the same draft?

If Carolina didn't trade up, I'm convinced we go Vontae, Everette Brown, Sean Smith and then notice PatWhite is still available in 3rd so we grab him.
Then see turner in the 4th grab him!
Hartline is available in 5th round, so take him there.. and really so on, IMO Clemons and Gardner were the only day2 value picks.
That being said, I'm extremely happy with Hartline in the 4th round, great scouting.

I liked Jairus Byrd he was in my Mock.

But Sean, any GM will tell you if you can hit on only 1/3 of your picks your doing a good job,so Miami had a good draft.

So my point is even some of the best team drafts ever still missed on most of their picks.

Oregon has another DB sort of in the same mold as Byrd (short, stocky at 5'11", 202 ) in T.J. Ward.....except Ward is a tad slower afoot than Byrd (thus why Ward plays S and not CB)...and not quite up to par with Byrd on the ball skills....

But....everytime I watch Oregon this Ward kid is all over the place.....it looks like there's 5 of him out there....he's always around the ball and in on the tackle....

Hell...he had over 100 tackles last year....and that's with Patrick Chung and Jairus Byrd in the secondary.....

I think he has excellent FOOTBALL instincts and a natural feel for the game that you just can't coach...you either have it or you don't.....he understands situational football and understands angles....and has to be even sharper with Walter Thurmond (Oregon's best CB) lost to injury...

He's not one of those guys that will put up eye popping numbers in the post season poking and prodding at the combine, or flash elite athletic ability....but he's just a good FOOTBALL player....tough and determined....

I don't think he has the upside that Byrd had.....but I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see this kid latch on in some teams secondary as a SS and hold his own at the next level.....and even play some specials....

and then they fly away for greener pastures....

Ward was all over the field again yesterday for Oregon.....had an interception too....

IMO Taylor Mays was the 2nd best safety on the field yesterday.....much less in the draft....

Not really but you get my drift....
