Have Our Rebuild Plans Shifted?

it all depends, which QB of the ones available this year and next does our brain-trust actually believe can lead us to a Superbowl win, maybe they think Haskins, and now that Murray is a surefire #1, Haskins can be had with a trade-up. If so, then perhaps our plan has already been accelerated.

Makes sense Bill.

We need another first rounder in 2020 to have a legit shot at Herbert.

We are not tanking but we do want a new qb.. may the chips fall how they may..

One good way to get the top notch QB is to trade with the Steelers for Mason Rudolph. I think they spent a 3rd and a 4th rounder. They should call them and trade this year's third, and next year's fourth now that they have the additional fourth next year. Or give them both fourths next year. Whatever it takes. That would be top notch QB value. Mason can sit behind Fitz or start midseason.

At the top of the draft with 13 and 48, they can fix the run D with Dexter Lawrence and Renell Wren, for good. Those would be HoF gets at the top of the draft, and Mason would fix the QB conundrum.

In the fourth they can get RT Paul Adams from Mizzou.

That would address the main issue, and well.

As bad as it looks our situation isn't so bad. We're clearing cap room have a shot at adding a QB this year if they fall in love with one of them and if not next year one will surely be within reach.

And that's all that matters. You get that franchise QB in place and everything else will fall as they may. That alone brightens this entire franchise and fanbase more than anything in two decades.

That being said.... I just want the right guy. I'm totally okay with building the trenches this year and finding our guy in next year's draft.

If Mason Rudolph is good, then why would the steelers trade him with Ben looking like he's getting ready to hand in his cleats? If the steelers are willing to trade for a 3rd and 4th, then you have your answer that he's not worth having. Your "logic" is befuddling.

If Mason Rudolph is good, then why would the steelers trade him

Mason Rudolph is not good, he is elite. That's all we need, an elite young quarterback, it does not matter which one.
Why would the Steelers trade him? Because they are in a win now mode.

they are lot of hype qb in college. they are few great qb in pros. so don't get fool by college play. we will not know who is real deal qb. until they play on sunday. if Ohio st QB drop to dolphins and they don't pick him. they are wasting time. dolphins should ask Andy reid which qb to select. than give k.c 6th rd pick.

Yes, elite!

Let's go through it. Can you understand that Mason Rudolph is a prototypical NFL quarterback at 6-4, 235? That is elite. Spend some time and check how many QBs coming out are prototypical. That's elite. That's what we want. We do not want a 6-0 quarterback.

Now, go and check, of those prototypical quarterbacks, how many had 489 attempts in 13 games, which is 601 attempts adjusted for 16 games? How many carried their team like that with 600 attempts a season equivalent? That's elite. That's leadership.

Now go check how many of those led the NCAA in yardage in a season like Rudolph. He led the NCAA with 4904 yards. That's leadership, that's performance, that's competitiveness. That's what we want.

How many of those quarterbacks were efficient: 65% with such volume. That is elite.

How many of those with such volume threw a pick every 54 attempts, scored every 13 attempts, and took a sack every 21 attempts? Not many. You can count them on your hands in the last 10 years. That is elite. That's what we want. Performance.

How many of those had 10 rushing touchdown? That is rare, that is elite.

He is in a rare group of quarterbacks, Goff, Mahomes, Luck, Watson -- great and rare quarterbacks, that's why he is elite.

You do realize that your case for elite pretty much falls apart as soon as you add: has been riding the pine and available for a 3rd, no matter how many explanation points you use.

Unless you think Ben is in a class above elite, then you're suggesting the steelers don't know what they have and are idiots. Let's look at this one more way: A 3rd this year and a 4th next year might move us up from the 13th to 12th pick of the draft, yet you have an elite grade on a 3rd rounder that not one team has tried to trade for and the steelers are willing to walk away from for what would move them up 1 or 2 picks in the draft.

I'm starting to believe that you and the rest of the world think *elite* QB means something very different.
