After reading most of these posts and the articles in the Herald and Sun-Sentinal, I can't believe we actually won a football game. This team is being portrayed as the 2nd worst team in the entire NFL behind the Titans. That's just ridiculous. (We're 3rd worst at the worst behind the Titans and Raiders!). Kidding.
All of this negativity stems from the expectations we had of this team. Culpepper is clearly not healthy enough to lead this team to a 12-4 season, but maybe as he gets stronger and more mobile, we can get to 8-8 or 9-7 or even 10-6. It's just a like watching a movie. If you think it's gonna be the best movie you ever saw, you'll always be dissapointed. We all thought this was going to be a best picture type season.
Look, I bought into the hype as well. I envisioned Culpepper flinging passes to Chambers and Booker, and Ronnie Brown running wild, and the defense stuffing opponents, and Mare actually making 30-yarders, and Saban out-coaching every team...but that was unrealisitic. This team has a horrible offensive line, a brand new secondary, an aging front 7, and a crippled quarterback. All of our expectations need to be lowered a bit, and when the team starts playing better as the year goes on (hopefully), we can actually enjoy a victory. For example, I'm not thinking we're going to roll into Houston and cruise. If we beat the Texans, who have a very good offense, I'm going to be thrilled, instead of saying, "Man, we suck. We barely beat the Texans." Right now, I'd say it's a pick-em game and we need to treat it as such.
By the way, the only way Culpepper is going to avoid being sacked 6 times a game is with designed rollouts. And if he's not healthy enough to rollout of the pocket now and again, then he shouldn't be playing. With this O-line, we absolutely have to have a mobile quarterback, and if C-Pep can't be that, we're doomed.
