Positives
* The 1st team offense marches down the field and scores a TD on the first and only drive. 14 plays, 85 yards, 8:01
* On that TD drive, the offense overcame two holding penalties by Jason Fox and Billy Turner.
* They also converted two 3rd downs along with scoring the TD on 4th down.
* Ryan Tannehill 19 yards to Greg Jennings.
* Lamar Miller bouncing a 27 yard run.
* TD catch by Jarvis Landry.
* Tannehill: 6-7, 56 yards and a TD. 139.6 QB Rating.
* Loved seeing the 1's have absolute command of the offense.
* McLeod Bethel-Thompson to LaRon Byrd for 34 yards.
* Red Zone defense...held the Bears to 1-5.
* After the Mike Gillislee fumble, the defense held the Bears to a FG.
* Ndamukong Suh drawing a false start penalty on the first play of the game for the Bears offense.
* The #1 defense getting a 3 and out on the first series.
* Liked how the "2nd team" defense stalled the 1st team Bears offense and forced a FG.
* Excellent penetration and explosiveness by Jordan Phillips.
* Solid pressure from Terrence Fede and Derrick Shelby.
* Liked what I saw from Mike Hull (4 TOT, 3 Solo) and Zach Vigil (5 TOT, 5 Solo, 2 TFL and 1 Sack).
* Bobby McCain open field tackle on 3rd down to force a punt.
* Will Davis tackling a receiver inbounds right before the half which in turn let the clock run out.
* Zach Bowman with a PD that was close to a pick six.
* Excellent decision by Joe Philbin to go for it on the opening drive. I would have kicked it in the regular season. However, the offense needed reps and were doing well on the drive. Great job to give them a chance to finish.
* Fins #1's and #2's played a relatively clean game.
* I like Philbin's sub pattern tonight on the line. He got Mike Pouncey and Ja'wuan James out early, but allowed Jason Fox, Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner get many more essential reps.
Negatives
* Turnover Differential: 0-4
* Jason Fox and Billy Turner holding penalties.
* Matt Moore, MBT and Josh Freeman played some ugly QB tonight. MBT had two INT's and Freeman one. Freeman missed a wide open Kevin Cone for a TD.
* After a long run, Gillislee fumbled setting up a (edit) BEARS FG.
* Matt Hazel drop.
* Jamar Taylor's holding call that nullified a Cam Wake sack and would-be Bears punt.
* Run defense without Suh in the game.
* LB injuries to Chris McCain and Jordan Tripp.
* Zach Bowman got worked at the end of the 1st half.
* Bobby McCain got "handsy" at times tonight.
* Anthony Johnson with 3 offside penalties.
* Caleb Sturgis kickoff that went out of bounds.
* LaMike James was shaky in both kick and punt returns.
* The #3's and #4's were sloppy and ineffective. Way too many turnovers and penalties.
* The #3 defense yielded a long Bears rushing TD.
* NFL Field Pass is way too expensive and for the money I paid. Plus, I should be able to get my team's broadcast. Plus, the action is so delayed sometimes. Disappointed.
Overall Assessments
* While I am very happy with the #1 offense, the team went against a defense playing a 3-4 for the first time with limited talent. There is lots more work to do going forward. I do think the offense can be explosive. However, the team needs to get all its weapons back and stabilize the offensive line.
* The Dolphins #1's rolled the Bears #1's. At the end of the day, this game was determined by many players that will not be on either team in a few weeks. Very happy with how the #1's and #2's played.
* The guard position still needs help. The idea that tonight's performance proves that Thomas, Turner or whomever are good to go is simply ludicrous. Also, the depth behind on the offensive line is questionable at best. The offensive line has many issues and none were solved tonight.
* Suh will jump offsides this year a lot, but let him play the way he is.
* Jordan Phillips is a monster with a ton of potential.
* With the injuries to Koa Misi, Chris McCain and Tripp all of sudden LB depth is major issue depending on the severity of their ailments.
* Speaking of which, some in the media had an issue with Chris McCain being on the field at the time of his injury. I do not. He has little to no experience at LB. He needs to play. He needs game speed reps to develop and for the staff to assess his play. I had no issue with McCain being on the field.
* I want to see more of Hull and Vigil. I am not saying they are an immediate answer, but they looked like they "belonged" tonight.
* Jordan Tripp's injuries do not allow him to develop.
* Sturgis still scares me.
* I will be interested how Philbin introduces Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker when they return to health. RT seems to have a strong connection with Landry, Jennings, Rishard Matthews and his TE's It will be an interesting task for the coaching staff.
* The Bears will have the first pick in the draft next May. That is a bad football team.
* While our next time to watch a game will be next Saturday at Carolina, the joint practices leading up to that game will give us another look into the talent and needs of the Dolphins. Very excited for the week ahead.
