I agree that WH seems to be moving forward quickly in the search for the next head coach but I have a couple of serious concerns. Mainly, Wayne said in his press conference that "its all about winning" and basically that he'd spare no expense on upgrading the Dolphins.

Then why hasn't there been any mention of an interview or attempt to get permission to interview Scott Pioli? He is easily the top executive in the NFL and he would significantly weaken a rival.

I've heard reports about the Giants contacting him one day after they were eliminated from the playoffs...why hasn't Miami been linked to any possible Pioli interviews?

Secondly, if WH is looking at college coaches as potential hires (i.e. Pete Carroll) then why hasn't he attempted to contact Charlie Weis? Now Weis may not even consider leaving ND but he would certainly be worth the time to find out.

Maybe both of these individuals have been contacted by the Dolphins but it just hasn't been reported yet. But if they haven't....my question is why?

Don Shula didnt even know who Scott Pioli was and he advises WH so obviously he is off the radar.

Don't worry about it, Pioli has said as recently as yesterday he's loyal to Craft/Pats and is not going anywhere. I wish he was coming here, but its not going to happen.

pioli is staying in NE...its been in the news.

the other coaches being interviewed form a good nucleus to select from.

sit back and enjoy the interview process...it won't be long, then you won't have anything to be concerned about.

Scott Pioli is loyal Kraft and the Patriots organization and apparently money is not an issue or he would have taken the Giants job.

Weis signed a 10 year extension and said he wants to stay at ND, his alma mata, through his son's graduation from there and his son isn't even in high school yet.

I totally agree about Pioli. He should have been at the top of our list, much before we considered hiring a coach. The problem is that I don't think Wayne wants this type of structure in his organisation.
Wayne is often celebrated as being a man who can land the big fish, regardless of the costs. He did well to land Saban- I know that this is blasphemy but Saban was an excellent coach. He was the right guy. WHo knew back then that he would bail so quickly? People have noted that Pioli is happy in NE and isn't interested in going anywhere but the fact that the Giants kept pressing while Wayne stayed silent worries me.
In my opinion, it's a no brainer: Pioli is the most attractive candidate out there for any team. You can't argue with his success. NE insiders will tell you that he has been critical to their success and that Bellichek and the PAts would not be where they are today without PIoli. It's definitely a strong duo, which means that hiring Pioli would only be part of the equation, but why Wayne hasn't even apparently explored the possibility concerns me. Wayne has thrown a lot of money around during his tenure as Dolphins owner. I'm sure, with his deep pockets, we could have at least got an interview.

you people need to chill the hell out....it's been a couple of freakin' days! JESUS!!
By my count it's been several years since we had a good coach. So I can understand people being concerned.

you know, for some people, loyalty is more important than money...maybe it wasn't for saban, but your statement is totally inappropriate.

maybe that is one of the problems...we are trying to "buy" a HC.

hope wayne gets this one right, or he'll lose all credibility.

I do agree that we have a good "nucleus" of coaches to choose from. But from what I've read, WH has taken his "brain trust" with him on these interviews and Randy Mueller hasn't been mentioned. That leads me to believe that we'll either be hiring a HC to run the whole show, a la Saban, Wanny, & JJ or we'll be hiring a HC & a new GM.

Pioli may have no interest in looking at other jobs but its up to WH to make a push for the best candidate possible.

The fact that Chan Gailey was one of the coaches interviewed scares me...WH is loyal and I think there is a better than average chance that Gailey may be our new HC. I hope that I am wrong.

Gailey has a good offensive mind. He coached Dallas under Jones, so he's "battle tested"...I would not be extremely disappointed with him. the key will be his coaching staff. I sensed that Saban had difficulty getting the OC and DC, and maybe it was because of his "dictatorial" style. I think Gailey will be able to attract/hire better candidates. He probably still has a circle of "close friends" that would like to be reunited with him.

Its all about trust, and am not sure if Saban had any from his staff.

Gailey was a bad OC for us, and a bad HC. I don't want him. He can stay in Atlanta, the Falcons didn't even give him a look and hes in their own back yard.

Note to LtDan - You should be flying that Ohio State flag at half mass because that team got killed last night!:sidelol:

Loyalty is one factor, and an important one in that for any prospective candidate, but to discount money as being another factor is just absurd. Money doesn't solve all problems but it does make the world go round. If you think it is inappropriate then I wish you all the luck in the real world. You're going to need it once you wake from your slumber in dreamland.
