He absolutely crushes it.

McDaniel is so different in such a great way.
The voodoo doll reference is perfect.

That's definitely a thing about the name. See it on here too when people make fun of an unusual name as an insult. Learning to spell and pronounce someone's name is the bare bones of human decency and being respectful.

I was raised thinking it was ok to do that. Took me until my mid 20s to realize it's dumb to mock someone for their God given name just because it's a bit different. Really glad I stopped, but I'll be damned that always pops up in my head to this day.

With that said, if someone changes their name to something dumb I'll be all over it. That's a damn choice. Lol

Back on topic though - great to see McD defend Tua and no give cop out excuses. Great leadership there

People won't say it, but Tua is also bashed because of his complextion. I know he's not African American, but in the eyes of some, Samoans are viewed the same because of their dark compextion. These days it's not as big of a deal to have an African American as a qb as it once was, but it's still a fair skinned position for the most part and if you're any minority and you want to be imbraced at the qb position you tend to need to have at least one superman trait... either an uber arm or ultra speed and quickness. You don't see many NFL superstar type African American qbs that aren't either big, fast or have a strong arm. Again Tua isn't African American, but he gets treated similarly. And yes it's true qbs of all races have an up hill battle if they don't have one of the 3 traits mentioned earlier, but it's a little more challanging for minorities. Zac Wilson is similar in size as Tua and doesn't have a big arm, but notice Simms never attacks Wilson the same way he goes at Tua. Even now, as Simms has Tua rated higher than Wilson on his QB list, he still takes more shots at Tua than he does at Wilson.

I have never felt that way. I am not saying you are wrong, maybe people do look down on a funny name, it just never occurred to me.
I do abbreviate on the forum, Eich for example, but that is due to my poor spelling, poortyping, and frequent voice entries.

I agree their exists racism. Blacks dont like whites, whites dont like blacks, muslims and Jews, etc.
Hopefully that number is decreasing.
I dont think it exists in the minds of owners, GMs and HCs. They want to win.
Personally, I would play a transgender, plaid, guy if it meant wins.

I have been here for almost 20 years before I was banned for battling all the nasty Tua trolls. As of two days ago I am back under my old username. Thanks to the mods for reincarnating me. The Tua haters are all gone now because Tua let his game do the talking. McD is making all the same points I was making back then about why Tua was being unmercifully attacked for being different and taking a stand on certain issues. In full disclosure I am unapologetically a man of faith and so is Tua. When you put yourself out there like that publicly you will be attacked. It comes with the territory. IMO that’s what’s behind the vicious attacks on SM from people like Chris Simms and others. Tua takes it all in stride and let’s it roll off his back, but when those attacks come from your head coach it is devastating. Flo did a number on Tua because Tua wouldn’t conform or fit into a box. McD is also a very different and a unique person and has faced many of those same criticisms. He has a unique understanding of Tua and the challenges of being different. This is a critical read if you want to really understand the backstory behind the unique relationship between our QB and his coach. McD saved Tua from the abyss because of that relationship and the understanding of what being different means. Kudos to McD for standing with Tua.

I agree gms and hcs just want to win, for the most part. Most of the Tua bashing comes from some fans and media members. But as far as coaches and gms go, there still an air of "You need to really wow me!" for minority qbs to be given a shot. I wouldn't say racism doesn't exist in coaches or gms minds, I'm sure it's their in some and not in others. Some good coaches and gms might be able to make football decisions despite their personal feelings, but I don't think just because you want to win, you are now pure of heart.

I'm not saying everyone that bashes Tua is racist. I'm not even saying all the people who do bash him because of his race are racist. It's just some people have different traits that they expect minority qbs to have and some of those traits... size, speed or a super arm are not at the top of Tua's resume.

And another big reason people don't like Tua is he played for Alabama. When ever you play for a dynasty type team your going to have some fans who love you and some who hate everything related to that dynasty team. Trust me the hate that Tom Brady gets from some fans is greater because of the Patriots success. If everything about Brady was the exact same and he played his career on a series of .500 Patriot teams he wouldn't have nearly as many haters and he likely wouldn't have been in spotlight as much to have the same fan base he has either.

Don’t kid yourself, wearing crosses on his face during games puts a target on his back. He doesn’t push his beliefs down people’s throats but expects the tomatoes because that comes with the territory. Being a committed Christian, who leeps his faith private, opens him up to attacks from the critics who believe you should keep those personal beliefs private. Big props to Tua for standing on his beliefs and his faith. It’s one reason why I cheer so hard for him.

I always knew that Guy would do well as our HC. - LOL

You and Grier. Still singing his praises for trusting his own judgement to hire a guy who was not even in the candidate pool until we came knocking. Thats why he's our GM, he should be better than me or you at evaluating these things.

I have to admit I hated those crosses on his face. Seems we lost every game he did it in? I see a lot of chest thumping evangelists around here. They make sure everyone knows what they are and what they stand for. And guess what? These are the racists. The segregated churches, the word ni**ger. That's who I hear it from. I live here and have worked here and have heard it all. Frankly its sickening.
I was very tempered when I moved to this part of the country with regard to religion.
But over time it has changed. When religion was an influence on my life is when I said "this is flat out wrong".
I have lots of examples of this spilling over into my life and causing me to have to make adjustments for them.
Believe what you want. Paint crosses on your face. Do what you like. But don't interfere in my life because of it.
