He was angry. So blessed angry. This was six games into the 2005 season and Heath Evans was just informed by phone the Dolphins cut him. But even as his blood cooked the phone rang again. New England wanted to see him.

"A hurricane was coming that day, it was a 45-minute drive down to Dolphins camp and I wasn't going down there just to turn in my playbook,'' Evans, now a NFL Network analyst, said. "I was too angry to do that."

The next day he entered the Patriots coach's office and slid the Dolphins playbook across the desk.

"Here, have this,'' he told Belichick. "I don't know if you're going to sign me or not. But this is yours."

Do you see now? Does it suggest why Belichick has the Dolphins-to-Patriots information pipeline flowing again before Sunday's opener? And hint why Dolphins' coach Joe Philbin returned fire Thursday evening by signing former Patriots defensive tackle Bruce Gaston?

Two days ago, Philbin shrugged off the strategic advantage of Belichick signing recently cut Dolphins Don Jones and Marcus Thigpen. But then he signed Gaston, who was a Patriot for just four days until cut on Wednesday.

Those four days behind enemy lines might be telling for Gaston and his new team, though. The Patriots surely began installing their gameplan for Sunday. Maybe a sliver of information can be found. At the very least, Philbin can tweak Belichick at his own waiver-wire game.

At least he's consistent: Heath Evans was, and remains a colassal douchebag

Everything in life is relative, but Evans getting canned is simply not the equivalent to me as the iron worker or firefighter getting laid off.

So he basically said he stole the playbook...class move douchebag!

Belichicks reaction:

He just basically said what we have been suspecting all along, they are not only signing guys, but they are getting tangible data from our team for their knowledge to be used against us. We must now game plan around this, if Bill Lazor is the offensive ace we suspect he is then he will know this.

Wow....and he can sleep at night. Hope that conscious of his doesn't keeping up at night. Douche.

Heath Evans is a stinking piece of wet dog ****.

So you simply intentionally release a player with the intent of him giving the opponent misinformation and then when the Patriots release him after the game you resign him, with a bonus, and say job well done.

I think this was Hickey telling Belichick he can play the game as well. Don't remember us ever making a move like this, especially this late in the week before the game. No doubt Gaston got at least a little glimpse into the game plan...which is more than Don Jones or Marcus Thigpen have for this game.

Still think all this is overblown.

If Evans did that he should just drop dead right now. He has no integrity for the game and sportsmanship. They cut you dipchit, take your medicine like a man and move on. One thing is to tell Bill all the plays you have memorized, but to hand another coach a playbook to sell yourself is disgusting. Those books are sacred to every team and it should be an unwritten law. I don't hate too many former players or analysts but that takes the cake. Despicable human being. He's the kid who cried when he struck out in little league baseball
