The Heat have the 29th pick in the draft this year, and no second rounder. We traded it to Toronto for Albert Miralles last year  . Anyway, who should we pick? I don't want any high schoolers or Euros...I want a college guy who can come in and contribute a little off the bench...like Julius Hodge of NC State or Wayne Simien of Kansas. I know Simien gets hurt a lot, but he's a monster when healthy.

DJ is opting out of his contract, and it's no garuntee Haslem will be back. So the two postitions the Heat should look at are PG and PF, maybe SG (like Kennedy Winston, or is a Rip Hamilton clone).

Miami worked out Luther Head the other day & the reports I've read said that at this point...if he's there, they are taking him. He's pretty much a poor man's Gilbert Arenas, but he could be one of those late-round players who develop into a starter. I'm starting to really like Monta Ellis. He's a high schooler, but he's one of the better scoring guards in the entire draft. Yeah, it was a high school(didn't stop people from raving about LBJ's numbers), but this kid put up 72 points in one game & averaged around 40 a night. Physicall, he's not ready for the NBA sort of like Dorell Wright is/was, but he'd be a nice guy to send over to the summer league and/or NBDL. I highly doubt we get an impact guy that late anyway. I like Salim Stoudemire & Andray Blatche a lot too.

The best move for Miami to make is dealing Butler & Doleac to Toronto for a re-signed Donyell Marshall, who they aren't looking to bring back anyway. That is heavily rumored at the moment, and if we do this...I'd love to see us throw that full MLE over at Antonio Daniels. Daniels surprisingly isn't valued that high, so if we could sign him for the upper half of the MLE & use the rest on Raja Bell, it'd be all the more interesting. Haslem is now more than likely staying with the new CBA, & apparently, if DJ opts out, we can actually give him a 3-year/$10m deal without cutting into the MLE. Picture this line-up:

1-Daniels, Jones, *minimum pickup/rookie
2-Wade, Bell, Wright
3-Jones, Marshall, Woods
4-Haslem, Marshall, *minimum pickup/rookie
5-Shaq, Zo, *minimum pickup/rookie

Out of Dorell Wright & Qyntel Woods, one if not both of those players will see time this year. One of them will replace Shandon Anderson, and I think that will be Qyntel Woods who is a similar type of player just far more athletic and a far better shooter, with less experience.

according to my july 4th ESPN the mag is says the safe bet is C Randolph Morris- Kentucky and the Long Shot G Luther Head- Illinois

I think Daniels will get the full MLE or at least close to it. He is planning on opting out on a contract that pays 2.3 mil next year so I assume its because he expects a raise.

Marshall may happen, but I think its more likely another team would win out if there was competition, as Phoenix did with Jimmy Jackson. Butler and Doleac is just not that appealing of a package.

hmmm....

they should get kennedy winston. sf i think he plays that.

Well my last mock will be in a couple days but i'll tell you my pick as of now for them

Monta Ellis PG HS Sr

Would give them a pg that can take alot of pressure off dwayne wade

I think they'd like to pick from Hodge, Simien, Jack and Head. I think they're hoping Julius Hodge is there, but right now, I don't think he's getting past Detroit at 26. I don't see Wayne Simien getting by the Rockets at 24. Jack's probably gone too, which leaves Luther Head.

I don't see them picking Randolph Morris; I think they'd like a player who's more ready to contribute right away, hence the above guys, all of whom are 3 or 4 year starters.

I just want a big guy that can rebound and knock people down....that would be fine by me...if he has a jumper..that would be gravy.

Agreed. If we can't get a big man, then I want someone who's a slasher. I'm sick and tired of seeing that, whenever Wade is out of the game, the team turns into a jump shooting team. We need someone else (besides Wade) who's not afraid to drive to the basket and score/get a foul on the other team.

A Head-Wade backcourt would be exciting for years to come. But I wouldn't be upset about Hodge.

I think the Heat could use a PG...they have the best Center and best 2 Guard...and decent Forwards.....I think it will be between Miami, Detroit and Philly next year in the East.
