On Chad's first interception, did anyone else notice the helmet to helmet shot put on him by #57. A lesser man would have been knocked out. Where was the flag? I think that illegal hit had him partialy dazed for the rest of the half and part of the reason he threw more INTs. I watched Chad going to the sideline after the play and he said, "what happened!" to the coaches.

To be honest, I'm pretty sure I saw a couple helmet to helmet hits today by them that weren't called .. but that's what happens when Hochuli's crew is out there.

Ricky took a spear to the head while he was engaged by other tacklers

Hey did you see that drunk naked bare breasted woman that ran onto the field and distracted Chad Pennington while he threw the ball on every single play. You know the refs should've totally called that one. I think it was a Ravens ploy, there is no other way that Pennington throws four interceptions and Cobbs loses a fumble. Damn Hochuli and his horrible play calling, cost the Dolphins a chance to lose by only seven points.......

God you guys are hilarious.

Brilliant post KY MD.

BTW, your user name implies you are a fan of using KY in Maryland.

I believe Chad was out of the pocket on that helmet to helmet hit on the first INT. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think helmet to helmet applies out of the pocket, unless the QB is sliding of course.

What's wrong with KY? I mean I really want to try that his and her thing but well seeing as though I'm single, it's not really a question to ask some random girl eh?

No the name means I live in Kentucky but am a Maryland fan.... :p

What? Helmet to helmet applies everywhere

Every helmet to helmet hit is not illegal. Only "flagrant" helmet to helmet hits, specifically those against players in defenseless positions.

It is a judgement call. Once the QB is out of the pocket, he is deemed a runner and helmet to helmet being illegal only applies if flagrant.

No player is allowed to launch himself, helmet first, at another player's head. This is a long-standing rule in the NFL, which lately has been enforced even more strictly when QBs are involved - in or out of the pocket. Guys like Chuck Cecil were fined repeatedly for launching themselves like a missle at offensive player's heads. A Jets safety was fined and suspended earlier this season for a similar helmet-to-helmet hit on Anquan Boldin - and he did not even have the opportunity to stop himself from hitting Boldin.

In the case of the Bart Scott hit on Pennington, Scott specifically aimed directly for Pennington's face mask, launching himself helmet first at eye-level. No one in their right mind can say that was a legal hit.

Peter King had the stones to mention it as a great hit in his column today on SI.com. I e-mailed him and told him that if Pennington had been Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, there would have been a 15-yard penalty and he would have been much less enthusiastic in his comments.

It was a dirty hit, plain and simple.

It was a great hit by Scott- Pennington ducking is what made it helmet to helmet. Now there was a play where Ray Lewis had a vicious helmet to helmet hit that wasn't called.

[He only did this because Ted said he was a murderer!!]
