Im of the belief that Ireland's job security has been assured, thus him doing right by the organization at what seems to be the expense of his job (from an outsiders perspective). He didn't value a qb high enough to draft him (maybe he wanted Locker or Ponder, or perhaps coveted Carson Palmer..who knows), and he hasn't brought in real competition for Henne. I think it was the right move to NOT overpay/trade for Orton. I think it was also the right move to NOT draft Mallett, who to me, seems like Henne 2.0..

He is operating as if he has security (and I think he should, we are deeper and more talented across the board) and not going the Mueller route of panicking and mortgaging our future should be commended..

This leaves Sparano. It seems unfair to hand him another year of Henne, with no one pushing him for his job, and say make it work or your out. Henne isn't Sparanos fault. While I hope Henne blossoms, if he doesn't, Sparano never really had a shot..

I will say that the one fair critique of Sparano is the O-line. That should be settled, especially seeing as it is his "specialty".

But anyways, I see this team operating the right way. Being smart about value and sticking to their principles. We are in a great position to flourish IMO, whether w Henne this year or whoever is at the helm next year. Yes, qb is the most important position. But giving a qb with all the requisite nfl abilities 3 years to develop is what a good organization is supposed to do.

I value Ireland a bit more than Sparano, but collectively they've transformed our fins into talented, young GRINDERS, and a team that, aside from perhaps qb, is respected throughout the league (think back to Derrick Mason's comments last year re: Crowder, and Bellichicks glowing comments about how much he respects our team, and our dominant road record last year). These guys took us from being a joke to being respected. I for one think it's a shame that theyd be punished for Henne if he collapses again this year..
