If Henne showed us his real game last night – the game he can produce on a consistent basis, then we’re in great shape for years. Henne displayed the “total package” with rifle shots, touch passes, deep ball and short to medium passes – all with accuracy and timing.
In addition, he looked very poised in the pocket and exhibited a degree of awareness I didn’t think he had. In every way Henne looked like and played like a real Pro last night, certainly not a guy making his second NFL start.
I’ve been skeptical on Henne a little, and have questioned passing of Ryan in favor of Jake Long. If last night is for real, then we made the right choice for sure – regardless of how Ryan develops.
Speaking of Jake, he was a terrorist last night – ESPN had an iso shot on him with an absolute pancake power slam dunk on the DE. It was the kind of absolute man-handling you rarely see in the NFL these days – and Jake certainly made a huge statement with it.
Of course the entire OL was awesome last night in both run blocking and pass blocking, and THAT makes all the difference in the world for Henne. But still Henne executed, brilliantly on that 3rd down at the 16 on that last drive, and gave us a HUGE uplift offensively. Teams will have an entire different issue preparing for the Offense with him pulling the trigger – and that should help the Cat as well as open the entire field.
