Henne's problem is pretty simple to me

Dude, haters are going to hate no matter what you say. It's in their genes. Just wait and see what happens in the regular season.
 
How many "Henne Sucks" or "Here is What is Wrong with Henne" threads do we need to have? Cripes, talk about beating a dead horse. We get it. Many here hate Henne and think he sucks...and I have no problem with that, BUT... Do we really need a new thread every 2 hours pointing out the hatred? And...yea, I know, all I need to do is simply not click on the thread, and I often do, but dang these threads take up 75% of the board.

Besides, it doesn't matter who our starting QB week #1 is anyhow, because the human revolving door that is Marc Columbo will have him on IR before halftime of the first game, and our #2 QB will in.

Henne, as we all know, likes to stare down his receivers.. So if his first read is open, bam, he's pretty damn accurate, and has a laser of an arm and that's where we as the fans say wow, kid has potential...

The problem lies when the first option is NOT open..

You can almost see a panic in Henne. He becomes tense in the pocket and he seems very uncomfortable and gets that robotic, stiff look and that's where things go downhill. He seems to quickly glance over his other options and ends up checking it down. This presents a problem because all this is happening within seconds and many times the pocket breaks down and that's when sh*t hits the fan bc he has some of the worst pocket awareness I've ever seen. He doesn't exactly know where to move in the pocket and a lot of times, goes down pretty easily with a defender around.

Henne needs to be MUCH quicker on his reads and become more instinctive in the pocket AND unfortunately I don't see him developing those skills. To me, that's one thing that Sanchez has that Henne does not have...which is pocket awareness. He has the ability to move around in the pocket and by doing this he keeps plays alive. His accuracy though, that's another story.

Sanchez sets up quicker than Henne IMO, that does not translate to me however that he reads better. If you notice, his offense is designed around a good running game. If the run game aint happnin, sanchez aint happnin unless his D scores points for him. Holmes became the go to guy. The best play was the slant that Holmes took to the house or got first downs on. Well, people will sniff that crap out this year. They better have better stuff to throw at teams cus I just do not see how they upgrade. I can see standing still or worse. Sanchez is focused on gayness in GQ articles. I can see us beating these guys twice should our Offense surprise.

Back to Henne. If this O is QB friendly and he cannot find a second or third guy in this O, then he will not succeed, but I still hold out that with the pieces on this team in this O, it may not matter much if Our D shows up and gets INT's and our special teams actual are special.
 
and another thing, on early downs, if he would just take off running if he see's nothing on bland sets, he will start to dictate to the defense and give them something to think about.
 
Thats the problem exactly. What he lacks is the natural instincts that the position requires to be successful at this level, and the accuracy(as Phil Simms noted)

He has the physical tools, but as has been proven time and time again that is not enough.

"Natural instincts" is an euphemism for "good defense-reading abilities", I assume? Because that can be acquired over time, it's a very coacheable trait.

Accuracy can be coached as well, though it is much harder. And I do agree QBs that lack it often fail in the NFL. But it's not a death sentence.
