It's Only Happened ONCE!
The NFL deadline for picking up 2013 first-round picks' fifth-year option is Monday, but the Dolphins don't need to do a thing to keep Dion Jordan's rights past 2016.
They already have them, thanks to Jordan's yearlong suspension in 2015.
Jordan, who still has not been reinstated by the league, did not get credit for an accrued season last year, so his contract was tolled.
That's the technical term for pushing pause. The Dolphins already are guaranteed his rights through at least 2017.
That's assuming Jordan ever plays again. The team still does not know if Jordan will be reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
He was technically eligible for reinstatement last week, but his banishment's year mark came and went without any movement.
Jordan is in Stage 3 of the league's substance abuse program, the terms of which include at least a 12-month ban. That ban began in late April 2015.
