On that day, the Denver Broncos lit up the Arizona Cardinals, 41-20.

Cromartie was on the field that day for the Cardinals and he spent the afternoon shadowing Denver receiver Demaryius Thomas. Well, trying to shadow Demaryius Thomas. Well, not really doing a very good job at all against Demaryius Thomas.

Thomas caught eight passes for 226 yards with two touchdowns.

And all but two of those catches were against Cromartie.

Cromartie was beaten on am 86-yard TD pass to Thomas.

And he was beaten on a 31-yard TD pass to Thomas.

And he was beaten on a 77-yard TD pass to Thomas that was called back due to offsetting penalties -- with one of those penalties going against Cromartie, who was flagged for holding Thomas as the receiver sped past him for the score.
It was not Cromartie's finest hour in what has otherwise been a solid career.

And what does that have to do with the Dolphins in 2016 as they look around for possible help in the backfield?

Well, the offensive coordinator for the Broncos that fateful autumn day in 2014 was Adam Gase. And Gase is now the Dolphins' head coach.

And I am told that while Gase respects Cromartie, he also remembers that day. And he isn't eager to have someone else have a similar day against the Dolphins if Cromartie were to be signed and handed a Miami uniform.

Ireland should have drafted Thomas and never given up 2 2nd rounders for that head case Brandon Marshall.

I was wanting them to pick him also. We got Jared Odrick 6 spots later that year.

We all know zika is the real reason. you can't have unprotected sex in Miami anymore so no way he's interested

with this told me his case will find a match up and exploit itfor the whole game

Anything is possible, but I hope our coach is smarter than that. You can't judge a career by a single game. Sounds more like journalistic story-telling to me.

hmmm........ . He has a poop game against an offense loaded to the gills with offensive pro bowlers with all world denarius catching passes from the absolute best passer in the game at the time and top 5 qb of all time to boot and thats a bum not worth looking at? Those two had been making chumps out of exellent corners with regularity for a few years. Had this been against some 7 year journeyman wr and ho-hum qb, that would be a little different. But that wasnt the case......., far from it!!!

This is actually a great situation to test him out and get a talented, nfl veteran on the squad to mentor the youngsters. We have a group of young, athletic wr's who can really test him. The days of hartline and bess are gone. I am sure cromarty would take a short, friendly deal at this point and if he struggles in camp against our big 3 of landry, parker and stills, they can cut him.

I dont like gases reasoning on this at all. I realize i am probably the only person not gaga over gase (at this point) and believe my reasonings are more than solid. This one just adds to it. There is one thing about him that has stuck with me thats caused me a lot of reluctance towards him (besides making his reputation on a squad full of the nfl's best talent in denver) is a story he himself told. While in the college ranks coaching, gase had a nemises. I forget his name and team, but he was a defensive coordinator on a conference rival team. Gase, as offensive coordinator for his team LOST to this guy 6 out of 6 times.

A reporter brought that up in a conversation after gase was hired as head coach for miami. It came up because this same D/C is either in the afc east now or in the afc. So, gase's response was, y"eah, that still eats at me. But i can promise you this, that will NEVER happen again!! Ok. Good attitude to have. However, i bet he told himself, and others this same thing after each loss to that coach, that it would never happen again.

Question to be asked is, if he couldnt figure him out then, in 6 tries, how will he do it now? And this one of my concerns about gase, the first time H/C. He has a MASSIVE ego. The greats, at anything, do. But big ego people generally have one of two outcomes. 1. They go on to be great and their production meets the ego's standard. 2. The ego finds out he doesnt have the cash in the bank to write the check when everything is finally on him and he crashes and burns. I love the over all coaching staff we have now, its the best since the early marino years. But gase, as H/C, is an unproven commodity.

One of two things is going to happen to Adam Gase and sooner rather than later. He is going to find out even though we have some great young players, we still have some holes and question marks and he isnt in Denver any more with peyton and company. He's going to find out quick he doesnt have it all down yet and his other wordly coaching reputation isnt happening and it cant fix everything. His big ego is gonna get slapped in the face. Or, this will cause him to become humble, forget the hype thats followed him and start identifying and fixing his weeknesses as a coach (see bill billicheck in cleveland). He will learn from it and go on to be a great coach. OR........, he just wont accept it. It will eat at him up sooo bad that he isnt living up to his other wordly reputation that EVEN HE has swollowed hook, line and sinker and self destruct.

That D coach from college who schooled him 6 out of 6? What happens when he is schooled by bilicheck, ryan, williams, phillips etc....? If this route is taken by gase, he will melt down fast and the team will get tired of him and his over blown promises and start to rebel in the locker room. Which will hurt his ego even more.

I am trying to keep a 50-50 attitude on which way he goes. You can tell (if you actually look) that gase has fully accepted his savant status fans and friends have layed on him. He is a true believer in his golden decisions and and untouchable abilities. Not good. But we shall see soon enough. To many fans are have already sold their souls at the alter of Adam Gase and this season can EASILY turn into last years hype bomb and mass depression on the fans.

Everytime gase farts now, fans are bumming they couldnt be there to sniff it. And this cromarty decision? It has the probability of being the thing we are all discussing at seasons end asking what was the point that started the snow ball rolling towards a failed season. It could be something to the tune of, "if we wouldnt have passed on cromarty, it would have been the differance".......... . But NOTHING in this world would make me more happy than to go on the board at seasons end and post how wrong i was about Gase, how i had him figured all wrong. Like everyone else, i am SICK of losing and bad luck and watching our beloved franchise sink more into obscurity with every failed season. It HAS to change sometime......., right? And i hope to hell gase is the guy. I dont care who, just make us a winner again. However, It IS prudent, and within reason to be a bit sceptacle of adam gase at this point.

Don't worry. We still have Ross at the helm making great decisions and guiding the franchise to "best in class." Or is it best in show?

Gase spent 3 years in the college ranks. 1 year as a graduate assistant. 2 years as a Recruiting assistant. He didn't face off against anyone as an OC. Let alone 6 friggin times.

The only story that would even come close to this would be when Gase said a DB coach gave him problems. That guy was Vance Joseph.

I think you have valid points here and I'm fairly skeptical as well, but have liked what I've seen from him so far. Am no where near as excited about him as some, but I'm trying to hold reservations before I go all in like I did with Philbin.

Wtf are you even saying?

I would have to disagree with those points as I pointed out in my post above. He did raise some other concerns that I believe I can address as well...

Gase didn't make Peyton Manning a great QB. Manning accomplished that long before Gase was even in the NFL.

What he did was take an aging 37 year old QB, straight off of 3 neck surgeries and help him lead the NFL's all time best offense. Manning's 2nd best season was 2010. The year before he got hurt in Indy. He threw fro 4700 yards, 33 TD's and 17 ints.

The guy was in severe physical decline when Gase first got his hands on him as the QB coach. His arm was shot. Everyone knows that. Manning's 2nd best season (out of 15) was improved (with Gase) by adding 4 more TD's while reducing his turnovers to 11.

As a first time OC, Gase helped improved those number to 5477 yards, 55 TD's and only 10 ints. That's quite a departure from ANYTHING Manning had ever done. It's 1,000 yards more than his average season, in his prime and about 700 more than his best season. It's 6 more TD's that he had in his prime, in his best season. You know....when he had mediocre receivers like Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne and an average RB like Edgerrin James. :)

He did what coaches are supposed to do....Make players better. Get the best out of them. He made him (and the offense) more effective.
