Drive Summary: Once again we are driving through air to Carolina 38. BOOM we try and run, -4 and holding. All rhythm gone, Tannehill 2-5 12 yards (can't see if passes were dropped, but he definitely could have been better here. We were so close to being in FG range again before our run game/0-line killed the drive.

Once again -5 yards by our offensive line...and for third drive in a row we make up 10 yards which would be a first down had there been no negative plays. Tannehill 3-4 24 yards.

Last Drive time for a couple plays down 4
1st: Hartline 26 yard pass
1st: Spike
2nd: SACK
game over

Yes Tannehill deserves some blame, its i think the transcript does justice

Lots of 2,3,4 yard passes, which is what I thought I saw.

Those short passed equated to first downs each time until we had a negative play, and then after the negative play the pass completion got longer but Yea its supposed to act as our run game...more reliable lol

What I see is us calling a pass 25 out of 32 plays (78.2%) for whatever reason. If we expect to win with this kind of balance we're crazy....and to expect a QB in the NFL to be successful all the time when the defense doesn't have to worry about a running game is way out there.

Add that drive from the Carolina 11 in 2nd qt!

1st and 10 run for no gain
2nd and 10 shuffle pass 3 yard gain
3rd and 6.5 incomplete
4th and 6.5 a fg

To many times we don't take shots at endzone till it is a must

I agree 100%

Miami called a run play 5 times in 2nd half for a net of -10 yards (including penalty on run)

Isn't that the drive where Mathews was leveled on a beautiful TD pass and then the refs pulled the targeting flag back though?

Can't run the ball cuz the offensive line sux balls and we don't have Barry Sanders. Can't throw long consistently because Tanny needs work on his deep accuracy and he usually only gets about 3 seconds to get rid of it anyway. How often do we see RT sit for 4 or 5 or 6 seconds? You see that much more often in NE, NO, Detroit, Cincy and Denver before Clady went down. And those teams can all run it better than us as well.

Some of it is Shermans poor run calling, but look at Denver/NE....Denver ran it for almost 300 yards and lost. Too many things can go wrong on 12 or 13 or 14 play drives. You need chunk plays. We have the weapons for it now, but not the oline with all the injuries and suspensions and defections. Could use a big TE for the red zone. Second round should be a big receiver or TE for the redzone. Oline in the first, unless we sign a big name guard or tackle. I could live with McKinnie for one more year if we drafted a guard high instead of a tackle.

In the end...without a running game, the Dolphins can't effectively run the clock, wear defenses out and allows the defense to focus on defending the pass....

And the amazing thing to me is how close we stay in these games with a one-dimensional offense. Except the Saints. What I would really like to know is how often the play is changed at the line of scrimmage and how much latitude Tannehill is given to do so. I have the sneaking suspicion he doesn't have a whole lot, because there has to be formations he's seeing that it would be better to run into. Has to be.

I think we went overly conservative in the second half with short passes. And what I wouldn't give to have a WR be able to break a freakin tackle on this team. We didn't break a tackle from anyone in that entire game.

Actually I thought I saw Hartline break one for the 1st time this year. I remember because I about fainted at the sight.

They need to pull hartline for Mathews in the red zone so we can run some slants and back shoulder at the pylon and fade routes...I'm tired of hartline in there wasting downs in the tight red

Need to get Mathews and clay work on the boundary...they both can defeat db coverage in tight spaces...

Excellent question. Sherman and Tannehill can't say, but maybe Omar or Mando have the correct answer. They know all the details.

Would be nice if this team had a real red zone win option physical mismatch tight end or wr but we don't...our best is clay flexed wide against a db or Mathews wide....not getting Mathews more 2 wr red zone looks is baffling

Mathews can play
