Why do we only draft ONE quarterback and then evaluate him for 3 years, and then rinse and repeat? Would it kill us to draft multiple QBs? Hell, Washington sold the farm to move up and grab RG3, and in that same draft they still took Kirk Cousins. Even way back when Aikman was drafted, Walsh was also scooped up in the same draft. It doesn't have to be multiple QBs in the same draft, but we do need an increased frequency of QB selections. The more lines you throw in the water, the more likely you are to catch a fish.

I really think we should have grabbed a QB in this last draft. There were a bunch of QBs with decent potential. Why not grab one? Cuz it might hurt Tannehill's feelings? And what about with our other failure QBs? We might've hurt Henne's feelings when he was around? Or Fielder's feelings when he was here stinkin it up?

I'm not saying it has to always be in the 1st round. For the sake of competition, motivation, and possibly finding the next big thing at QB in Miami, we need to start drafting more QBs. The never-ending QB frustration has got to come to an end already. This is sickening.

I haven't totally given up on Tannehill yet, but I am getting pretty damn close. It sure would've been nice to have some young QB on the bench that we were developing while evaluating tannehill, just in case Tannehill doesn't work out.

New England has Tom Brady and they are still drafting QBs. Why can't we???

No matter who the GM, scout, or coach has been, they have poorly evaluated the quarterback position. That's the main problem. It goes back to evaluation.

Ireland "lucked" into finding Tony Romo as an UFA rookie out of college in Dallas and that strengthened his belief in himself that he had the gift of finding talent without having to give up a high Draft pick. The QBs he drafted in Miami were Henne, Pat White and Tannehill and he picked up Devlin as a development prospect.
I'm not prepared to give up on Tannehill yet but games like Buffalo tend to eradicate my confidence. Lazor is the best possible Offensive Coordinator for him but the big question is whether Ryan has the ability and talent to take his game to the next level. His shortcomings are more exposed and my concern is that while very smart, he doesn't diagnose things quickly enough (and Pouncey's absence exacerbates it). The other problem is that he's just built very slender (just look at the photo of him with Griese and Marino). Yes, he's athletic and pretty tough, but there is not a lot of him and when the big DEs like Mario Williams, at Buffalo get to him, he looks a bit tentative.
Unfortunately, there are no certainties in drafting QBs. We may want the next Tom Brady to just fall into our lap in the 6th round, but it's probably not going to happen. We need to be drafting more QBs instead of just betting the house on a single guy every 3 - 4 years.
This year I was pretty sure we would pick one up like Murray in around the 4th round, but our other needs were too great and Hickey has done a good job in drafting considering the apparent holes. However, the OP is 100% correct and I hope someone is listening. The Cousins example in Washington shows Shanahan's experience in drafting with a backup plan in mind, as does Belichick selecting Garoppolo.

At this point I wish we had Devlin. Not a strong arm but very accurate. Pennington won without a strong arm, but was very accurate.

Eh, Tony Romo??? No thanks, he's lost every big game he's been in. And he makes worse decisions than THill. Ireland never found anything.

Evaluation is definitely part of the problem, but evaluating college QBs is a tricky business. I just want to see a little bit more effort put into finding a good QB. Why can't we have multiple QBs brought in, and if one doesn't pan out, at least we will have someone else waiting on deck. This nonsense with never having a back-up plan is asinine.

What we should be doing is drafting a QB every 2 years...groom them for a couple and if they are good enough to take over, then they start. If not, you trade them to some moron team that "thinks the grass is greener" with our BU...a la Matt Flynn...and move to grooming the new guy...

Kirk Cousins has caused a QB controversy for RGIII since last year. He has done some very good things in clutch moments, but I'm not sure that he will be able to be the guy when team's are gameplanning against him. Unless he ends up being the clear answer I'm not so sure that the downsides of him bringing a QB controversy have been worth it in the long run. Some of his clutch play could have been provided by a veteran QB who wasn't a real threat to RG's job.

I do like the idea of drafting QB's just as developmental guys but very few teams are doing that these days since the third QB inactive rule was changed.
