With so much negativity lately I am curious how we would be reacting if we had beaten the colts, saints, and patriots. (Actually, I already know the answer, I think)

We are over-analyzing every aspect of each loss this year, and of course, the sky is falling because we are 3-5.

But look at the big picture here, and no, I'm not talking about us being a work in progress, that is a conversation for another thread.

Assume Ted Ginn hauls in that last pass in the Indy game (or we come up with a stop and keep Manning from scoring) Either or, take you're pick, I'm only asking for 1 play in that game.

Assume the officials don't call Sharper's int a TD and we get the ball back with a fresh set of downs at the 20. 1 play.

Assume we bat away either moss' 60+ yard catch on third down, or the 75+ yard slant in the Pats game. 1 Play.

Guys, my point is, these teams didn't dismantle us the way alot of people thought they would. Sure, they had their moments, and when you are playing against two teams that are undefeated and one that everyone praises as if they were, all three manned to the gills with pro-bowl QBs, TEs, and WRs, they will most certainly have their moments.

We were close to winning those games. Yea, I know, close only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades....

BUT, what if we pulled out the wins? What if we were 6-2 instead of 3-5?

Are we still calling for heads?

Look, I'm not happy about the losses either, and we absolutely need some more playmakers both on D and on O. I wouldnt mind seeing us continue to pressure QBs in the second half, throw downfield more often, or just run the damn ball between the tackles without the WC. But ya know what? We have been doing the right things, we have run with the best teams in the league and fell just short.

I have to say, I am happy with the progess our rookies are making in the secondary. Anyone that thought Smith and Davis would come out and beat the world on day 1 is kidding themselves, but they are learning fast and getting better game by game.

I am also happy with Henne, he is gonna have set backs, and I'm sure people will call for his head. Be patient guys.

BTW, this thing aint over yet, we still have 8 games to go, anything can happen, all I am asking is to sit back and look at the big picture once in a while.

well not to be a debbie downer but that little voice in the back of some of our heads also plays out this scene out.........what if sanchize hits his receiver for a td and what if ronny brown gets stuffed at the endzone..........we could really be 1-7 right now

Sure, I know what you're saying, and I am not disagreeing.

It really isnt a what-if game that I'm playing here though.

I'm really just trying to point out that those games were close games. We were winning at some point in each of them. We played 3 close games against 3 top notch teams, so just because a play or two didnt go our way (or a few did go our way, but we just needed that one extra play to go our way and the L turns into a W)

All I'm saying is we shouldnt be overreacting to 3 losses to teams with a combined record of 22-2, especially considering each of them were close, winnable games.

the bottom line is if we had beaten the Saints and pats we would be talking super bowl around here.

this is why I asked a simple question of why are we a two minded society that is one extreme or another.

I am trying so darn hard to be the middle of the road crowd but a one man group isnt a good crowd.

I would have been happy if we could have pulled off 1 win out of three games bu I we could lose 4 more games to teams we shouldnt lose to so I am going for the middle of the road aproach.

I believe it or not am content with what's going on here, I see a few holes that need to be plugged up and were stacked for the future. I am thankful for our 3 wins it could have been alot uglier and I belive we showed we belong with the up and coming teams who can totally ruin a good teams day.

If- if's and but's were candy and nuts- it would be christmas all year long.

Silly post, because yeh if we win we rock and if we lose we suck.....did you just start watching football? This is how it is man.

oh yeh here's another:
If -if was a fifth we'd all be drunk by now.

Nicely said.

:rolleyes2: You totally missed his point, I guess you can continue to down your fifth, get drunk, while some of us will stay sober long enough to actually see and understand the progress this team is making.

I really think were close and I think next offseason will be enough to put us over the good team hump. Henne is getting his on the job training and is passing with flying colors. We've seen that we need an upgrade at WR, help at TE, help at NT, and maybe a real FS. Our Oline needs time more then anything else just like Henne, R&R are solid, we're set at DE, Wake also needs more time.

I see us re-signing R.Brown, M.Roth, L.Polite and A.Fasano. We will attempt to trade Ginn, Porter and maybe Bell if they think Clemons can handle the duty.

In FA I bet we go for a solid WR (A.Bryant,K.Walter,L.Evans), maybe a NT but we will sell the farm for K.Dansby if he's available. I also think we bring in a down the field TE like T.Scheffler or D.Clark, both of which would be a QB's best friend.

That brings us to the draft, which then fills in the holes.....

ILB (if we can't get Dansby) like R.McClain would be a perfect fit

WR (I think between FA and the draft we bring in two new WR's and say good bye to two), I'd be surprised if we spent a first round pick on one

OLB (we need more depth especially if JT and Porter are gone)

NT (this will be interesting if we don't get one through FA do we go after T.Cody or pick a mid rounder)

You'd be hearing about the Super Bowl had the Phins beat those teams. Since they didn't, the board goes the negative route. It's a thin line between the two extremes but it happens to all sports fans/boards.

Theres an old saying in nfl, you are what your record indicated.
We are a 3-5 team, a below average team.

All fixed for you

Well, Buffalo is also 3-5. I guess we are the same as them. :rolleyes2: We've played the toughest schedule in the NFL thus far, and we've really only been destroyed in 1 game.

You're a doom and gloomer if you seriously think we're as bad as Buffalo. We've nearly handed the 2 undefeated teams remaining their first losses. How would Buffalo hold up against Indy?
