With so much negativity lately I am curious how we would be reacting if we had beaten the colts, saints, and patriots. (Actually, I already know the answer, I think)
We are over-analyzing every aspect of each loss this year, and of course, the sky is falling because we are 3-5.
But look at the big picture here, and no, I'm not talking about us being a work in progress, that is a conversation for another thread.
Assume Ted Ginn hauls in that last pass in the Indy game (or we come up with a stop and keep Manning from scoring) Either or, take you're pick, I'm only asking for 1 play in that game.
Assume the officials don't call Sharper's int a TD and we get the ball back with a fresh set of downs at the 20. 1 play.
Assume we bat away either moss' 60+ yard catch on third down, or the 75+ yard slant in the Pats game. 1 Play.
Guys, my point is, these teams didn't dismantle us the way alot of people thought they would. Sure, they had their moments, and when you are playing against two teams that are undefeated and one that everyone praises as if they were, all three manned to the gills with pro-bowl QBs, TEs, and WRs, they will most certainly have their moments.
We were close to winning those games. Yea, I know, close only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades....
BUT, what if we pulled out the wins? What if we were 6-2 instead of 3-5?
Are we still calling for heads?
Look, I'm not happy about the losses either, and we absolutely need some more playmakers both on D and on O. I wouldnt mind seeing us continue to pressure QBs in the second half, throw downfield more often, or just run the damn ball between the tackles without the WC. But ya know what? We have been doing the right things, we have run with the best teams in the league and fell just short.
I have to say, I am happy with the progess our rookies are making in the secondary. Anyone that thought Smith and Davis would come out and beat the world on day 1 is kidding themselves, but they are learning fast and getting better game by game.
I am also happy with Henne, he is gonna have set backs, and I'm sure people will call for his head. Be patient guys.
BTW, this thing aint over yet, we still have 8 games to go, anything can happen, all I am asking is to sit back and look at the big picture once in a while.
