Remember the 1982 divisional playoff game (when we did that sort of thing) against the Chargers?

Woodley couldn’t move the ball. Went down 24-0 to start the 2nd quarter against the NFLs #1 offense.

Strock came in and lit it the **** up.

It’s not just changing the QB. I have this game on DVD and watch it every now and again, usually after yet another awful loss. Nostalgic, but inspirational.

This was the greatest football game I have ever seen, although we lost. We were down for the count, out of the game in our own house before the 2nd quarter.

But we got pissed. We showed heart, determination, and tried our guts out. Were von Schamann a bit more on target, we win that game.

This was post-Griese, pre-Marino. No huge names, just a bunch of guys who played football. Hard.

This current team does not have heart. If things don’t come easy, they say the hell with it. Always next week/next year. Some are trying, but not all. No way these current guys would fight that hard down 24-0.

Or even up 17-0.

If we had those guys right now, we’d own the world. Oh, if only you younger guys could have seen how they played.

Can you imagine how many union grievances would be filed against a young Don Shula in today's NFL?

And therein lies the problem. On the other hand, playing for Shula then was like playing for Belichick now: not gonna pay top dollar, but you get a good shot at a ring annually.
