The new coach talk to the press, gave his what I like to do's list..and then he finally got me listening..and it's this one statement that gives me hope, not parcells, not Ireland, but this one statement:

He said every player will be given a clean slate. As for the systems he'll run and his football philosophies, he wants the system to fit the players, and not vice versa, and the former offensive line coach likes to build from the trenches.

Likes to build from the trenches..oh those sweet, sweet words...a coach who was a OLman, and understands Lines, DL and OL, this might be the best thing to happen to the fanchise from a draft and recuitting point of view...as long as he can get his way..and bill and Ireland allows him to do it. If he can build a OL, even C. Lemons could play QB for us..:D

Not so sure about Lemon, but I second the rest of your statement! I really liked the part about the system fitting the players, not the other way around. This could, and I stress could, really reduce the time it takes to turn this franchise into a play-off contender!

my problem with the system fitting the player is our players suck.
If we get player to fit our system what about the exisiting players?
So what's the deal. I know you can't force a player to perform outside his skill set and expect quality play. In the short term Yes I think you have no choice but to talyor some of your systems to the players. Long term is more problematic.

Wasn't Shula the same way. He coached the players based on there strengths and not the other way around. He didn't try to force his system on them. Maybe that's why he was so successful.

Exactly, that's why he went from Czonka, Kiik, and Morris, to Dan M. From running to passing, that's coaching to your strength.

you mean kinda like cam cameron said so and did as well in satele then QB then FB then WR? although lacked the defensive side but that was mainly due to how bad our O was and how good our D was the year before.

So many people say that Dorsey isn't a good pick for the dolphins because he doesn't fit the 3-4 scheme. However, I think with a player of his talents you make it work and make him fit. We aren't a solid 3-4 team, we are a hybrid 4-3, 3-4. In all honesty we probably are better suited for the 4-3 with the players we have right now anyways. Dorsey has to be the pick, too much talent to pass up because people believe he doesn't fit. Great coaches make schemes that allow their players to succeed.

True, But in the long term don't you pick the players that would best fit your style of play either 3-4 or 4-3. So what do you do if your players short term are of the skill set to play 4-3 and long term you want to play the 3-4. Your kinda stuck in a jam aren't you. Does this force you to eventually get rid of the player that don't fit your system?
Look I understand you have to play to the strengths of your player. Thats why to succeed you need to bring in players that fit your system so everyone is on the same page.

This will be interesting, as most coaches and GM's say they pick BPA...so if that's the case and Dorsey is deem BPA...then he should be the pick with our D adjusting to accomodate his skill sets if he can't hack the NT positon in the 3-4. But Miami U didn't run a 3-4 either and wilford seems to be doing just fine in NE as a NT.

That is probably the best philosophy there is. Building from the trenches. From hearing this, We will most likely draft Glenn Dorsey. I would rather draft a linebacker or corner but Im going to trust Sparano on this. This is also good for Beck. Beck did not have good pass protection last year when he was in and it made him look horrible.Brown hopefully will return to total beast.
